I have not attempted this in your circumstance. I would heat the area up carefully with a hairdryer and sprinkle diatomaceous earth from a pool supply store on the area. It can adsorb oil.

I out some cornstarch on it for now. I don’t think it’s going to help, but just want to confirm it won’t make it worse or take off the matte finish? Thanks so much!!!

Diatomaceous earth won't react with the finish or affect the gloss unless you scrub it into the surface like an abrasive. Warming the surface can allow the stain material to liquefy slightly. You could try warming the area and then adding cornstarch with a weight separated from the cornstarch with wax paper or aluminum foil.

I read and re-read what you said then stared at that picture until my eyeballs hurt and still have no clue as to what finish is on the table. I digress to those clever enough to tell simply by looking at a picture what kind of finish they are looking at. I'm confident no one will advise without knowing all about the finish.

If this were my table, and the diatomaceous earth didn’t do it, I would find some part of the table that is finished but inconspicuous - inside of a leg, etc - stain it with tomato soup, then see what removes the stain. Wood bleach, fine sandpaper, etc. And how much damage is done to the finish.

Maybe you should apply a new and more protective finish?
