Paint help for Living Room

last year

My LR faces North, and the only sunlight is from the door window facing North. Ugh.. I’m having the LR painted Behr, Lively White, which I think will help brighten the room considerably. I’m also having the stairwell painted Lively White. At first I was also going to have the ceiling, doors and all trim also painted Lively White. However, since the stairwell trim and spindles are white white, I’m having second thoughts. I would love your thoughts on what all should be painted Lively White.

IMO, Lively White is too yellow for trim. So I would keep all the trim and ceiling whatever the white-white is. Ceilings tend to pick up some color from the walls due to reflected light, so it should look complementary. Of course I don't know what color the white is that you're referring to. Make sure you sample the two next to each other to make sure they're going to look good together. Especially when you're paying someone to do the work you don't want to make a costly mistake.

Sorry I have never seen a home with no windows in a LR . BTW paint doesnot lighten a room only lighting does that .and you need a lot I see pot lights 2 lamps a chandelier that light not much at all . I would start by changing all the bulbs in all the pot lights to LED 4000K thenget a chandelier that actually lights the room not the ceiling and with much beeter bulbs that those little chandelier bulbs too. Then choose a white I see yellow even with the table lights .I like wlls and ceilings both in a matte finish and the same if you are using a white . Lively white is a yellow white do you love it in the other spaces . If so then do the trim in the white from the staicase and the walls the LW the ceiling too

We can't tell without seeing them together. Can you tell? Get from sampliize, or make, much larger samle cards of your wall paint. Tape it up where the wall meets the ceiling. That is the best way to tell.

I concur that you need a lighting plan. (Though eeks on 4000K!) And, I'd certainly hang a very large mirror above across from the door above the sofa.

Over the years I paint walls, ceiling and trim in the same color of white walls and ceiling in eggshell finish, and trim in a higher sheen. Provides contrast, but color is the same. BTW, my painter loves me for using all the same color 😍

Thank you all! I considered a mirror above the sofa, however it’s supposed to be bad for feng shui to have a mirror facing a door. 😩 But I may have to reconsider that and just pray a lot! I will also consider the lighting and since you mentioned Lively White has a lot of yellow, I may look at other whites with less yellow that will look better against the white trim that I have.

Your paint selection IMO is WAY TOO YELLOW. It's not close to being a Neutral White color.

Pick a white from one of these charts. Then select a whiter white for the trim.

I have some notes about issues in your room that should be addressed to make the room look it's best.

WOW! That’s fascinating that you saw that level of detail! I SO appreciate you sharing that with me. 🥰 And I will check out those colors.

Why are you using Behr paint? My professional painters tell me that the quality of this paint is not very good and it's only received good ratings when the primer and paint is applied to fresh drywall and allowed to cure for some time. Most homeowners cannot exit their homes to allow paint to cure.

Behr paint is less cost vs sherwin williams, like $32 vs $75. If painting myself I wait for 30% off sale at SW. Their paint definitely applies better than Behr. Especially important for big jobs.

Now looking at Sherwin Williams. Possibly Dover White or Creamy… Also changed the light bulbs. Amazing how much better it looks. Who knew?! 🙃

Remove the wreath, it blocks light (and the back of it is not pretty).
