new kitchen design- thoughts?

last year

New design draw up from a cabinet company. What do we think? Current kitchen in yellow and red… this would eliminate my dining room- which I’m posting separately. Option to move dining room to two places….

Dining options… I cleaned out the whole room to show it bare. We are never in there… we watch tv in the sectional room but willing to swap rooms. Also option to take down the wall in between both den and living room…. So it’s open and airy. There’s only four of us and we love to entertain. So would prefer bigger space/open concept feel.

Porch and what you see in den room

Buckle up, because I fear that kitchen layout is going to cause seismically bad reactions.

  • last year

… how is that? Adding this.

Can you post a floorplan of the rooms discussed so we can see how they relate to each other? Did you specify a beverage frig or is that something the kitchen designer threw in?

  • last year

She threw it in. Here is option without. I don’t have updated open kitchen and dining- just old plans from before we took the wall down I will attach.

  • last year

Only change is the wall opening from kitchen to dining… which we had a beam put in.

Now that I see your floorplan, this looks very familiar. Do you also post a while ago with questions about how to use your living room because it is formal and never used? Did you also want to add a laundry room on to your bathroom? Or am I totally confusing you with someone else?

Sounds like you removed the wall without a plan. No big deal. But yes, there is a lot to be figured out here. I do home that @Jan Moyer will chime in as well as many others who are fabulous KD's.

Do you intend to add a table to the empty space in the former dining room area at the front of the house?

What is the dotted line along the wall across from the island? Does that denote walkway area?

  • last year

Yes that is the walkway area. I’ve posted many times! It’s been five years and I’m still trying to figure out this space…

We have no options to move bc we’re priced out of the area. This house doubled its value in five years.

So I gotta figure this out… the lannolium and cabinets we have are falling apart.

Can the door to the new pantry be moved?

You are better off being able to use that corner and have an L shape, than the island which you don't have room for as drawn.

  • last year

That was the best scenario so we can also go outside… we want access to the grill. I don’t use the corner as it is now. It’s a dead zone for appliances- we use a tiny butcher block island. I need a peninsula or an island.

My other crazy idea if I cannot get an island… is to bump into the garage the entire width… the garage is 23 feet long.

I would take up to 3 feet from it to extend the kitchen space… would that yield more opportunities? Or is that crazy? The roof has no 2nd floor. I just cannot have plumbing under that space bc then I’d have to dig a basement…. So the island would have to house the sink. And that would mean no walk in pantry.

So the 60" wide window is becoming a door? it's not clear

Your aisle measurements on the island are cab to cab front - not including the knobs, fridge doors and handle, DW handle, etc.

Handles are maybe two- 3 inches out… for fridge. Door would be closer to the island bc the door they have by double window is directly over the basement window we cannot block with stairs.
