Kitchen cabinet decor project

last year

This is my new winter doldrums project. I want to add more color to my glass front cabinets.

This is an old pic, ignore whatever you see inside. The cabinet shop sent their photographer one day to take pics for their web site, and she staged the kitchen.

The rest of the room. Art on far wall is no longer there.

A while back, I wallpapered (with removable paper — I hope easily removable) the back of the cabinet but I am over it and planning to remove it today. I did it when I was into turquoise blue as an accent and now, after painting the power room pink, I have added a few pink things (a couple of pillows at the window seat, a couple dish towels…nothing too crazy!). And mostly deleted the blues.

First I want to get some pink glasses. The cabinet is primarily glassware, and it is almost all clear except for these.

I have these in my C&B cart:

I think that is enough pink for me.

What else can I add for some color? Maybe a water pitcher? The only ones I have are clear glass.

I have liquor in the bottom shelf, so maybe a colorful cocktail shaker…

Will post pics of what will stay in the cabs later today. That will probably help.

PS the cabinets sometimes look gray in pics but they are SW Filmy Green, shown here oddly enough with pink!

I saw similar plates somewhere, bb, and was tempted! But now I have bought 5 of the Anthro plates via Poshmark so hopefully they will be good. Meanwhile, my experimental ones from A store arrived and are not what I want but they give me hope that the lighter, more colorful Anthro plates will look good. I would put 3 on this shelf behind the glasses. And maybe two on the shelf above, after moving what’s there around… still lots of tinkering to do.

Hitting up one local cute vintage shop here today where I know she will have a lot of white things. Then off to beach house tomorrow for a few days, and will visit a couple of favorite shops there. By the end of next week my cabinet may look a lot like 1929’s…except with a bit of pink fluff!

These are the plates on their way to me.

    Considering this, too.

I love those Anthro plates, SueB. Excited to see the final iteration.

The plates are gorgeous. Not to send you out shopping again, butI think you need some masses of solid pink to get the look in your inspo pic. Blame me.

I had to scroll back to find an inspo pic because I didn’t think I had shared one. It wasn’t an inspo pic exactly…just made me think I wanted more color.

I also browsed pinterest today and like these. So it seems like what I am attracted to is the controlled chaos (thx 1929) as well as some degree of color. Also liking the textural elements in the first one so maybe I also need some of those wicker glasses haha.

No color here but I like the vintagey, kinda messy look.

I want allll those bowls on this top shelf. (Have I mentioned only 2 people living in my house?)

I also wondered how they got this dog to stand inside a coffee cup.

PS I am not done shopping but don’t forget I have a big pink bowl and a medium pink vase on the way.

Lol the dog! I love all of those pictures.

I think we both bought wicker glasses once and both returned them… Or maybe that was just me

I have glass front cabinet in my kitchen, and it works for me. I have random mugs and small pitchers on the bottom, and large serving bowls on themiddle level, and random small trays ( that I hardly use) on the top shelf. I did this when the kitchen was done I thin 4 or 5 years ago and it brings me joy every time I look at it.

Anyway, I am no sure about the glass showing up well ( but I like the idea of a colored napkin to "enhance" it).

Mtn, I did not buy wicker glasses. So it was just you.

Maybe a wicker ice bucket…why am I suddenly obsessed with ice buckets?

  • last year
    last modified: last year

That's pretty. I think the wicker would look really nice with the color scheme you are working on!

I bought a new ice bucket over the holidays because I needed one when we had company and the rental didn't have one. I really like it but its not what you need.

    Here's mine just cause

Mtn, I did not buy wicker glasses. So it was just you.

Yup,just looked it up - a yr ago from PB. They were crazily irregular. Different heights! Some wer cockeyed. Now I want them again.

    S&L's are 20% off... 😬

I think the glasses may be too fussy but this pitcher…♥️ how many pitchers does one need?

  • last year

I have the wicker and seagrass glasses in a couple of sizes and from a couple of different vendors. I didn't have any issues with the PB glasses and also found some at Home Goods and a local boutique. What I love about them is they eliminate the need for a coaster. I'm a big fan and think they would look great in your cabinet. As would the wicker ice bucket!

  • last year

Hmm, the coaster part is a very good excuse, Ruby. Believe me, you would have rejected the ones I got from PB. They looked drunk.

Sue, I have a pitcher and a cake plate problem. TBH I think you need some volume of one thing. Like 8 wicker glasses. Or 8 pink latte bowls (i have them in blue but mini).

  • last year

Mtn, so do you mean, for example, the pitcher and 8 glasses from S&L that I ordered this morning?

  • last year

    OMG, go Sue, go!

I think they would look too busy with my spoon wallpaper cabinet backing so I once again, walked away.

But I cannot wait to see them in your cabinet!

Looking forward to the big reveal!

I hadn't clicked on the S&L link until now. Dang, now I want the Sepia ones.

Stopped in two thrift shops en route to beach house today. Picked up the cutest pink vase with flowers around the rim, and a smallish white vase. The pink vase might not make it into the cabinet because it would look cute by the kitchen sink.

I have another big consignment shop to check out this weekend, and a local Home Goods. Hey, maybe some pink stuff will be on Valentines clearance after today!

LOL I was eyeing the pink-foil-wrapped Hersheys hearts in CVS today thinking hmm those would look cute…I might be obsessed.

Umm these might be sitting in my etsy cart…because I really need 3 little cream pitchers for all the tea parties I have.

PS I have a couple of glass cabs at the cottage, too, for anything that doesn’t make the cut in the other kitchen. 😬

I have a few of those .. ducks, dog, and of course the cow. I like to serve warmed maple syrup in them when I have guest, either for waffles or over a piece of pie or yogurt

PS it is a gorgeous day at the New England beaches.. dramatic waves, emerald water, bright sun and a snowy backdrop. Enjoy

It is pretty to look at but whoa is it windy!

Today’s thrift find: two small yellow Fiesta chili bowls, just so the yellow vase isn’t all alone. I can see us using them, so they’re not just going to sit there. Can you believe I did get something else but now I can’t remember what. 👵🏻👵🏻👵🏻

Nothing at the Home Goods here, I almost bought a set of 4 pink glasses but remembered I have 8 new glasses coming from Serena and I don’t even ”need” those, never mind 4 more.

By the time I get home I think most of my PM/Etsy finds will be there so that will be like Christmas! Will report back midweek.

  • last year

    LOL

  • last year

Okay, here is my first draft. I want to find another large pitcher for the top right, and something else TBD.

The mostly empty shelf on the right is waiting for the wicker pitcher and glasses.

Definitely needs more tweaking. Not sure I like all the pink things together on the left. And everything is the same height on the two middle left shelves. Off to try some other arrangements. Feel free to chime in!

  • last year

I love it. I might switch the pink ceramic shelf with the shelf on the right, one up from the bottom. I think the two "matching shelves" (plates with glassware) would look better side by side rather than on top of each other ... altho thay may be dumb functionally. Can't wait to see the wicker!!

    Sueb20 thanked mtnrdredux_gw
  • last year

Ok now wickers will go on the left.

    Rearranged some other stuff.

    The wicker family just arrived!!

  • last year

I don’t know — maybe wickers should go on lower right?

  • last year

Yes for trying the wicker on the lower right.

Since I'm not standing in front of your cabinet my impression may be wrong but to me there's too much dark on the left 2 bottom shelve while the bottom 2 shelves on the right seem to contain more clear glass items.

  • last year

Yes, wicker has a lot of visual weight so def lower right. I think you are very close; top 2 shelves on either side looking super!

  • last year
    last modified: last year

Agree - I think I might try switching the placment of the wicker glasses (love) and the clear glasses on third shelves. Getting there!!

  • last year

Not sure about the tray up there.

  • last year

Close the doors for now and sleep on it. I think it looks pretty darn good!

  • last year

Maybe try the wicker pitcher on the left side, 2nd from bottom shelf? That shelf seems bare. And I don't think the pitcher and glasses have to live next to each other?

Also, the plates leaned against the back seem to get lost? Maybe they're too small?

I agree it's looking good. So close!

    Sueb20 thanked jsk
  • last year

I would put all the like colors together, i.e. a separate shelf for pink, for white, for rattan, etc., for maximum visual impact. Love all the pink!

    Sueb20 thanked Kswl
  • last year

I agree with kswl. For some reason things look a little chaotic being separated from their like-colored companions.

I too love the pink items. Maybe add those in first, the wicker and the white. Stand back and see what you think at that point. I’m not sure the yellow is what you need. Keep in mind, I’m no expert, lol.

    Sueb20 thanked OutsidePlaying
  • last year

Okay. I think I’m close to the final draft! I still have 2 little white pitchers coming. I think they’ll go on the ”white” shelf on the right.

And I know the blue bowl is an outlier but it’s got sentimental value so I like having it here.

It’s hard to get a good pic with the doors closed, but it definitely looks more colorful now.

I think I can add more, but I will be patient and see what I happen to find.

PS the plates are small — ideally they’d be a bit bigger but dinner-plate size would be too big. I think it’s better now that I have 3 on the ”clear glasses” shelf.

  • last year

Looks super. i liked the version with yellow in it as well tho

Looks intentional now, not chaotic. The yellow was jarring.

    I agree.

It's looking done and looks great. If you come across some special pieces to add in the future, great. I hope it makes you happy every day.

The bunny and duck pitchers are cute (I used to sell them in my store) but they are tiny and might not be easily visible in your cupboard.

Your cabinets are lovely whether staged or not.
