Suggest aiming for a calmer space and test whites with slightly differnt undertones that best suit the tile.

A new light and some lovely towels will help create a more lux feel. Suggest adding a framed print for an injection of color vs wallpaper.

Either the paint or the wallpaper could work

I would not do wallpaper. You have a lot of different patterns in tile going on. Looks a bit busy to me and I would stick with just paint.

If you want to do a wallpaper (love, because it solves many mix and match color problems). Do a tone on tone; include the color of the accent tile; peel and stick...so you easily change it with your mood. Below is Home Depot paper.

I like @BeverlyFLADeziner 's functional grey. I'd paint the ceilings in it too. Then find a piece of artwork you really love for above the toilet. It could be quiet, bright, patterned, painted, abstract, photo, realistic - whatever. But that grey is a grounded, dramatic backdrop for art and works wonderfully with the subway and accent tiles.

I’m in the wallpaper camp. A beautiful wallpaper and matching shower curtain will override any other flaws in the room. Spoonflower will do many designs in both. Here are three I found. Working greys and pinks sounds good to me!

I would go with neutral color pallet. Wallpaper with tile look busy.

No wallpaper in there for sure. IMO a nice color from the tile to keep it simple since there is already a ot going on with all the choices of tile

I love wallpaper in a bathroom, and the last dark one you showed would be my choice if those were the only choices. But there are so many to choose from--I love Schumacher and Thibaut, and would pick one with a dark background for a dramatic look.

I'm leaning towards paint as well. Wallpaper is feeling very busy with this tile the former owner chose. Any suggestions for shelving or hardware to go with the "white" paint look?

Do you need shelves for practical purposes? If not, I‘d add a framed print, but wait until room is painted to get a better feel.

Regarding hardware, choose/install your new light and select a style/metal that is complementary.

If you want paint, then go dark and dramatic. Black or charcoal gray would work great.

I would go for simplicity as much as possible. Can you find a basket to fit the funny shelf above the white door? That would simplify that space. And if you could raise the shower curtain rod to the ceiling….it is possible to find extra long shower curtains on the rainforest site, I know you said the mirror is staying, and I know how surprisingly expensive they can be, but a taller mirror that goes down closer to the vanity would look really nice. It would break up the racing stripe in the tile. A nice big black and white photo for art over the toilet.

Glass shelves are used frequently in bathrooms and would be the least visually obtrusive choice. There's already so much going on with the tile I don't think you want to call attention to shelves.
