kitchen cabinet depth too short for premade countertop with backsplash

I bought ready made countertop with backsplash for my kitchen cabinets but the overhang will be more than an inch.....will be actuall 2-3 inches. What is the best way to handle this.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband passing and that you are taking on the monumental task of getting your home in shape in the meanwhile. Great that you are not demoing this kitchen and leaving the old cabinets in. Is the wall in the back even? Is the depth of the cabinet even? Take the easiest route - a wood top. Forget a backsplash. Caulk a good line between the countertop and the wall. Clean it out with a sponge the same way you would were it tile meeting the countery. Paint is really easy to wipe food off of. I have had painted wall instead of tile or countertop material splashes and it truly does not make a difference.

cut off the backsplash ridge ... skribe to fit the wall. and the front will work.

you don't want that curb backsplash anyway... add a nice tile backsplash after installation.

Are you intending to put a drawer in the top drawer space? It looks like it will not clear the countertop overhang. Can you return this countertop and get a new one? It seems like a premade top is not great for your situation.

What about Ikea butcher block tops cut to size? They are rather inexpensive.

Unscrew the cabinets from the wall and pull them 2 inches forward. Use a 2" piece of wood as a spacer to screw the cabinets back into the wall. Make sure everything is level, then use the pre-made counters. Watch out for conflicts with your trim.

Ty all.....it's a house built in 1951 and basically the cabinets were made in such away as not to be removeable unless I demolished and rebuilt them.. The drawer will clear and if needed I can build it up a bit. Just getting the house to this point has been a massive undertaking since my husband passed in August.....he was the guy who knew everything. I knew I would run into an issue trying to finish it up. I even thought of scribing the backsplash itself....to reduce the thickness. That might only take an inch off though. I would also have to add support to the cabinet fronts underneath the countertop for support. Think that would work?

Those look like site built cabinets, thus immovable. I agree with Kendra, get butcher block counters from the big box home improvement store, cut them to size, finish with a wipe or brush on urethane. It will look nice and be inexpensive. You may be able to use the piece you trim off as the backsplash ”curb”.

Cut off the splash plus more. Buy the build up kit, so it will lift those up high enough to clear your drawers. Then do a separate tile splash.

Looks to me like those are site-built cabinets....not new. Can't pull those forward. I like the idea of cutting off the backsplash and tiling down to the countertop instead.
