What’s the height of opening? This is storage I assume?

Is the plan to lwave the opening the same size? Or can you make the opening five feet high?

I would say the height of the opening is about 3 feet!

We have to leave the opening at this size, the goal of this opening is to use it for storage.

Why a barndoor ? These are usually best when they disapper as much as possible . We did one where it just lifted out to access what was behind it painted like the wall. I guess I need to know what needs to be accessed in the space Not sure about the size and as for decor it seems to be a hall to the W/D so maybe some fun wall paper since it also is veey narrow not sure if you want to hang anything on the wall

Thanks for info.I suggest a solid door to keep the staircase noise down. For storage, two rollout shelves for laundry detergent and laundry basket. A barn door will stick out into the hallway and will let noise from feet on the staircase right through.

Depending on how often you'll access it, you can put the door on magnets. It will work really well for storing out-of-season stuff, perhaps less so for every day storage. Another option is to put rolling storage that pulls out and has a door that just fits flush. Ie a rolling storage unit with a wood door face.

Sigrid's rolling storage unit with wood door face would be perfect. Versatile, easy to use and unobtrusive.

Barn door is going to protrude into the hallway about 3". I would never use a barn door for this application. Put a regular swing door in there or be prepared for brushed shims and knees.

I agree, the barn door would stick out😥 I’m open to other suggestions! There is just not much hallway space for it to do anything but slide.

Why do you even need a door there? It looks like this area is in the basement (I see the stairs off to the side coming down), so just leave it open. Every opening does not need a covering.

Why not put a standard swing door at the front of that space, making a narrow laundry room? But a 3/4 plywood panel on a hinge would open flat against the wall and be far less obtrusive than a barn door.
