Redoing family room, would love input

Haven’t changed this room in many years so all input welcome. Changing basically everything!
Want to get rid of carpet and go with wood but the ceiling is throwing me off and not sure whether to go light or dark??? Getting new couch, fans, curtains and also painting the room. Possibly a cream color. TIA
