Assume you’ll be removing the corner piece and planned on centering the buffet…but I’d opt for a sideboard/art/low lighting. Hard to recommend a style, as your chandelier is modern contemporary, while dining set is not. Your kitchen looks modern…can you advise which direction you had in mind?

Given the openess of the room, you should consider the hall and kitchen wall colors. You can’t go wrong with white, which will also pull in the white in table. Add color with drapery, art, pottery.

IMO that light and table do not belong in the same space .IMO the only place for a buffet is infornt of the windows unless you turn the table to allow more space on that big empty wall. 1/2 dead plants need to either be made healthy or in the garbage . How does the rug connect to anything? I do not love rugs in DRS but at least it needs to connect to something not just pulled from a hat. You could do nice blue linen drapes that would tie the rug in. You need art and choose the buffet first then a pice of art big enough for the new buffet . If you must keep that light then the whole DR needs to made more elegant as suggested .

Chairs around table should be white to match the table

You could select a distressed painted sideboard for the room.

The light is such a contrast to the country dining set. Consider adding white chair slipcovers to go in a more elegant direction.

Or paint the chairs cream to match the table and get high end blue velvet seat cushions. I like Beverly and Maureen's sideboard suggestions. If you're on a budget, sideboards can be fairly easy to find. Then get someone who knows what they're doing to paint it blue.

I agree that the light and the table aren't friends -- at all.

Those sheers aren't "enough" -- you need real curtains.

I like that long, low console shown above.

You need an accent color -- not a whole lot of it, just an accent.

You might want to consider a narrow shelf with art pieces you love above it, since the space is tight on the open wall.

I liked @Maureen's suggestion for window treatment and @BeverlyFLADeziner's for painting the chairs. I don't find the style of the chairs really suits the table but if painted the same white as the base on the table they certainly would be a better fit. For a nice look, you can also place slipcovers on the 2 end chars. The buffet I show is something you can find in thrift store that you can refurbish and paint. I'm also showing a pendant that reflects the style in the room.
