Garage Conversion into a two story studio/home office

Hi, I am hoping to get some ideas on a potential floorplan.

We have a garage with the pitched roof that measures: 4.83m long by 2.3m wide.

It currently has basic boarding to the top of the garage allowing for heavy storage 'upstairs' which gives an additional 3.8mx2.3m of useable room before the pitch restricts head height (it then extends another 4.5m under the restricted head height).

I have an arts and crafts business requiring lots of worktop and shelving space but it also needs lots of natural light as well as a staircase to reach the 'upstairs' level. And a new door into the main house on the left wall.

It is south facing so the garage door being replaced by a large window would be ok but I'd also need skylights.

I'm really stuck so any help would be great!

I'm not sure why you need another door into the house that just takes up valuable wall space in a workshop.

For the stairs, a spiral staircase takes up very little room. Makes sense instead of a ladder to carry your work materials up and down.

An art "studio" is different from an apartment 'studio". I think that is where the confusion thinking this is going to be a living space.

How many feet is 2.3 meters?

The first step is to make sure your area allows garage space to become living space . Storage space in a garage is not living space . Usually when do this type of conversion it becomes more like an addition with a garage underneath and living space above and brought up to code .

Hi, Thank you for this. We originally had two garages and have already converted the other 4 years ago so it is allowed in our area (this is the dining area shown in the floorplan). It looks like an original part of the house but I just can't see how to work the floorplan for the new garage conversion. Thanks for your comment x

Hi, Thank you for this. The reason I'd like a new door in from the main house is that the door currently leading into the garage (which is labelled as 'Study' on the floorplan, ended up being a utility room for our pets and general dumping ground!), so I didn't want to have to have the utility as the only access point to the new area (even though I realised this would mean I would lose some shelving/workspace).

A spiral staircase is a great idea to save room - thank you.

"posted in jpeg format" When you can not enlarge the image that is seen on your screen the easiest way to enlarge the image is to do a screen print (copy) and paste it into an image processing program.

I have both Firefox for browsing and Irfanview on my tool bar. When I see an image like that above it is the screen print button and then the Irfanview, and enlarge it, without a second though. If I want to save what I was looking at it can be saved from the image processing program.
