Not above the mantel at all since it will be way to high for proper viewing. Show us the whole space and if a ceiling fan is a must no light in it .

TV is way too high! Show us the whole space in photos and floor to scale for a possible rearrangement of your furniture. Agree no light in fan and fan base and blades to match ceiling color.

TV height is based on viewing, nothing to do with ceiling height. Is this the only place for it?

I swim against the tide here in general, as I have TVs above fireplaces in 2 homes - and contrary to what you will read here, we have no issues with comfortable viewing. However, there are very important caveats to making it work too though.

There are a few tips to keep in mind though as obviously excessive height of a TV will cause problems. So in order to pull this off successfully it's important to keep it as low as possible. I think the bottom of both of mine are less than 5 feet off the ground. The higher you have to place them to clear the fireplace, the bigger the chances are of viewing problems. Secondly, you will be amazed at the different just tiling the screen downward can make.

Yours looks too high to me too. So there's that. And that is coming from someone who is not in the "never place a TV over the fireplace" camp that exists around here.

You want the bottom of the fan to be at least 7' from the floor. They usually come with different lengths of rods so you can customize the drop. A 24" rod should be sufficient. Although the angle the picture was taken from may not show it exactly the way it is, it does look right from that angle.

As for the TV I would forget about putting anything on the mantel and hang the TV as low as possible - just a few inches off the mantel. If you had room left on the sides you could put something on the mantel there, but your TV takes up the whole width.

The obsession in this country with "fire" , some so faux it's a joke, is remarkable. I can hear the builder convo....." we can't sell a house if it doesn't have a fireplace"......

LOL and it’s real we do use it in the “winter” came with the house.

Jan, you'll appreciate that I did not include a fireplace when I designed our FL house! lol

We had 4 fireplaces that came with our southern CA house and can count on one hand the times they were used during the 10 years we lived there. Rarely cold enough to use them and the times we did use them was for "look" during parties. Saw no need to have one when moving to a slightly warmer and humid climate.

People do have a hard time doing something different than what they had in the previous colder climate they came from. My FL neighbor even added faux chimneys to their house to make things symmetrical on the roof!
