Window Treatment

last month

I'm looking for advice on my living room window treatment. I use this room all the time and we like the natural light as well as the view. I'm trying to go for a more cabin/farmhouse/ cozy feel. I've attached a picture of what the future wood trim as well

You also need to post picture of the entire room (all 4 walls) so that we know what the room looks like style wise. Take the pictures in a good light, the one above doesn't have good lighting.

solar shades recommend, with openness, we can see through and good at sun shading.

    HOW about color HYL-506?

I have no idea without seeing the space and that wood trim is very busy so for sure I need to see your space ,

cabin/farmhouse doesn't really describe any look.

Is that the only wood in the room? What style of trim? wide?

The furniture in the room may be an issue with drapery fabric,

I see a TV mounted on the wall (much too high for comfortable viewing) Is that the direction the furniture faces?

Does the light affect TV viewing?

Do you have a view out the windows? alot of unanswered questions for any good advice.

The trim will be 3 inches wide. The TV will me mounted lower. This is a North facing room. The TV is not affected by the light. Our view is of a lake. This is our main living room. I'm torn between roman shades or curtains

Solar shades, as suggsted, in an ivory or brown color.

Since you're putting some thought into the room, one way to get a much cozier feeling is to rethink your layout. Float the sofa to face the wall it's on right now. Put your TV on some nice wood built-ins. Move your nice leather chair by the window at the end of the room.

    This layout only flipped orientation:

There's nothing in the room that would be an example of 'farmhouse' style.

These rooms below lean 'farmhouse' style

Bringing more of the caramel color into the room could help. I'd use drapery panels on the window for texture and softness to this hard room.

The room needs an 8 x 10 rug to link the seating together.

Roman shades are casual but add color, softness and give privacy. You could hang them high so you maximize your sight lines. Curtain panels are always nice, but hang them just over your wood work and stack them off your windows. The only way curtains should be hung higher than the windows is if they aren't open so they have the impression of taller windows.

I know you've asked for ideas for the window treatment but there were a few other things that didn't work for me in the room starting with the rug that's too small, it should run al least under the front legs of the 2 sofas. Then I moved a few things around and added decor. Place a wood tray on your glass/metal coffee table to give some warmth to the room as well as placing a wood table in the corner with a lamp. I show a gallery wall on the left and large canvas above the facing sofa. Cordless fabric roman shades on the windows.

Note: Perhaps the layout can be done differently with the TV on the back wall but without a floorplan with dimensions impossible to see if that would work.
