If you can't draw it, you can't build it either. You have to understand construction in order to be able to draw something that is possible to be built. That is not a free service. What is free is to go to your library and check out a bunch of books on building, so that you understand enough about that, to be able to both design ad build it.

I am not savvy when it comes to technology. I already have a rough draft of what I want on paper but thought someone out there knows how to do an online floor planner may help. I am not a builder and I do not intend to build this building. I have contracted someone to do that, I merely was asking advice/suggestions of how to ARRANGE things in this building for what I plan to use it for as I am having difficulty in visualizing it. And btw I’ve never asked a darn thing for free I ve worked my rearend off to have what I have. Thank you very much.

You don't need technology. You need a library card, an architect's scale, and a set of pre done plastic templates of objects, available online anywhere. Or else you are going to end up with something that doesn't work for what you want it to work for, and way overpriced as well. Because those that know little are prime to be taken advantage of. Learn how to DIY.

You'll always benefit from putting in your own effort at this stage when working out a design. You think more about what you need. You get a preliminary plan on paper to look at and show to a builder. You post it here and people can ask questions and offer suggestions. You'll then be more capable of finding the right person to help you get to the finished product. It's really valuable. And you get all the benefits.

Well then, write the check to the architect to design a building that matches the home that you paid him to design. And write the check to the actual builder that built it, too, so he can build the shed too.

Dan 1888 .. this project hasn’t had my full attention as I’m caretaker for my 86 yr old Mom, helping my Daughter and grandkids and in the middle of relocating my Mom to our property in her new home. Im on a budget and this is getaway for me to do projects. Im trying to design a plan that will be useful, practical and within budget. Also one that will be aesthetically pleasing on my property.
I did get graph paper today and I’ll post it once I’ve finished. :)

Here’s my draft of the shop. Snarky remarks are not welcomed. Constructive criticism is. Thanks to all who mean well but not those who are just mean with their comments.

Be sure to consider how the shop relates to the site. How it is orientated in relation to the sun, wind, views and other natural features. Consider the experience one has passing from one building to the other and how those buildings relate to each other as far as shape, massing, proportions, etc.

And in laying out the interior be sure to allow for wall thicknesses.

As you design this space for construction, as Mark mentioned, the walls are composed of a 3.5" wood stud and 1/2" or 5/8" drywall. The exterior can be outside the stated dimensions. It can have sheathing, insulation foamboard of 1 or 2" and a finish material. You'll need a location for a subpanel for electrical supply. And water and sewer to supply your sink. Here's a vid on current construction.

Hey good on you Trenise for asking questions and trying to learn. Getting some plastic templates that have interior appliances n such is nice to be able to see needed spacial areas. If you already are set on the size. You can only forsee what your future building will look like to a certain degree. It will probably change after you get in and start using it.

Id suggest that you have extra electrical receptacles and plenty of lighting. Find a nice view you like and put your window there.

instead of alot of built in furnishings go find used furniture to repurpose like a door topping two book shelves for that center work table. Paint an old armoire instead of built in cabinets. Or get wire shelving on wheels and add full length curtains to hide tubs of seasonal decor or craft supplies. Hoarding art supplies and dragging home curbside furniture is a occupational hazard for me, so I could find things fill this space fast. Have fun with this.

For some serious eye candy there is a magazine devoted to artist studios with a title like "Where Women Create" that you can find at Michael's and other craft stores.

Needless to say my backyard pottery shed or my school studio will not be on their cover anytime soon. But I could be a "hoarders" superstar.
