Small house. Living/dining/home office help

Recently moved in. Looking for ideas for better use of space and design as everything is mismatch now. In a beach town so love the light oak, light colour vibes.
Not opposed to closing in wall full or half between dining table and office space. There's a step down between.

Closing off the railing will just make the room feel smaller and give you less light for your office area. Wish your table had a center post so you could turn it so it is parallel with the railing. But that would make it hard for two people tosit at it. You could paint the post and railing, the same color as the wall and that special door. Then it would blend in better and not feel like it’s a sore thumb sticking out at you. Just a thought.
