Is this fireblight?

These lesions, a couple of which are oozing, are on a several years old pie cherry (might be Montmorency or North Star), growing in a pot. Last year was its second year of production; it may have been stressed by our very hot temps and prolonged drought (although I watered, and it never looked stressed).

Sorry about the photo quality - my phone just did not want to focus on the lesions!!!





I didn't spot the damage when I last sprayed in late fall; but very obvious when I went out to spray earlier this month.

We had colder than usual temps, and for longer, in Jan-early March, but a couple of instances of rapid warming that lasted 1-2 days - cold these be from freeze-thaw damage?

But, I am worried about fireblight or perhaps another disease - had to trash a pear that had fireblight a couple of years ago, and an apple had suspicious spots that I pruned out last year. The peeling bark alarms me.

My doubt comes from having had a (single) similar lesion on my French Plum several years ago that resolved - but it didn't have the bark peeling IIRC.

What do you think? I am inclined to get rid of it..

    Sorry........didn't mean to come across as a chiding school teacher :-) Some members of the rose family are more resistant to the disease than others and cherries fit under that heading. They can contract it but not nearly to the same extent as say apples or pears, which are highly prone to infection.
