Any Design Ideas?

Hello, we just moved into our house and are trying to figure out how to arrange this room into our home office. We have a desk, bookshelf and recliner. I am attaching the old design from the previous owners so you can get a better view of the how the rooms layout is with the door and window and closet

Please show all four walls of the space so we can see room entrance, any other windows, and so forth. Here' is how to post a Design Dilemma so everyone gets visual and other information up front.

Here is how to post a Design Dilemma to get the best results. (Post only one thread on same Dilemma. You can add photos to original thread.) You need to show the whole space—all four sides of an entire space—even if it’s about one specific Dilemma. A layout fix is often a Design Dilemma fix even if it doesn't seem like that. Commenters need to see doorways, windows, closets, finishes throughtout the space to make informed suggestions.

State right at the beginning what the room will be used for and who will use it. State the non-negotiables at the beginning, what has to be kept. Give some idea of the budget. And provide approximate measurements

Keep in mind that you're inviting some design pros and people with a design eye into your home via photos. If they walked into your actual space, they would take in all of it: all four sides, doorways, floors, windows, ceiling, built-in fixtures, lighting, trim--the "givens"--then the features that can be changed--furnishings, paint, art, rugs, decor items, etc. It's all one first impression. Same thing with photos. That's why it's important to provide well lit photos of the entire space, taken from all sides of a room regardless of the size of your problem.

is that the only furniture you intend to use in the room?

    A desk, a recliner, and a bookshelf?

Is it the only access to the pool?

We have a small side table as well. And no there are other doors in the house to access the pool. I’ll add more photos of the room when I get home so you can see all 4 walls. Thanks

Make sure you take photos with shades up and all lights on. I thought you were showing two different spaces!

Here a floorplan based on the pictures you posted, all you need to do is indicate all the dimensions of the room.

Also give the dimensions of the furniture you plan to use.

A floor plan with dimensions is the only way we can give you valuable suggestions for a furniture layout.

Thank you for the photos. Here are my thoughts:

--Keep the desk and armchair where they are. Get a sconce wall lamp for over the chair for reading.

--Take off the valence over the window and put a nice bamboo shade to lighten up the space.

--Move bookcase to the wall to the left of the doorway. Get light bamboo baskets for all the cubbies--same as bamboo window shade.

--Make a pathway to the glass doors and pool with a bright indoor outdoor runner and catch drips when people come back in. It doesn't have to be this one, but one that works with office side and going to the pool. This one looks like a beach towel without being too beachy,

That's it. Keep all light modern and bright. Get a nice large art work or a pair of two smaller art prints for the wall where the bookcase is now.

Or a "Take a break and come outside to the pool" image. All three are from society6.com

Wow this is amazing! Thank you so much for the tips!

Suggestions I made were for furniture you have. But if you have the budget in the future think about lighter pieces for a room that has a pool outside!

Still no dimensions for the room but instead of facing a wall and having your lazy-boy stuck in the corner, you seem to have nice light in the room with the french doors and window so perhaps a plan like below would suit you.
