Ahhh one of the many things I miss about Connecticut.

I usually hear them about the time we open the windows. Hopefully soon.

Yep, I heard them starting a couple nights ago. Seems kinda early to me but a cheerful sound nonetheless!

The Western (aka Midland) Chorus frogs are always the first to sing here. I've been hearing them on the warmer days recently. They have a trill that is often likened to the sound of running your thumb over the teeth of a comb. Their native range (see iNaturalist map below) is limited to a swath of the Midwest, so east-coasters wouldn't be familiar with them.

I had to look up Peepers. Thought it might be a bird. Our frogs have also started and yes it is a harbinger of spring. I love it, though in a few weeks it will be an almost deafening sound at night and can be a bit much. I don't know what kind of frogs they are, perhaps there is a herpetologist on these boards?

I believe that is a tree frog, So cute.

Aw...no tree frogs here. Our aural spring harbinger is the cuckoo. Usually the first week of April.

Thanks for posting this, Dee! I stuck my head outside last night (NE z7a) to hear the happy peeper spring chorus! Lots of rain this weekend and the vernal pools are moist so should be a bumper crop this year.

I wish we had peepers. The first sound of spring is always welcome. For me it's hearing more birds chirping.

we had a colder than usual winter here this year so the peepers started later than usual here! I live across the street from a pond and adore the sound!

Oh, My Goodness. This post brings back so many great memories. Spring Peepers are still one of my favorite sounds of all time. It also brings back memories of our Dear Claire.
