Dining design dilemma: gallery wall or tall cabinet?

I need help with two questions: Choosing a design, and choosing a brand of furniture.

1) I've posted photos below, and I can't quite decide between having a nice robust buffet with a gallery wall over it. It looks nice but the storage space might be limited. Second option is to have tall cabinets, with some display doors. These are very expensive! The photos are attached below. The dining table and chairs, I already own.

Behind the chairs, opposite to the tall cabinet, there is actually a space for a small buffet. So having the tall cabinets does not necessarily mean I cannot have some buffet 'surface' when entertaining.

2) The original tall cabinets that my designer proposed on the photo is from RH. So they cost a fortune, and I am not willing to spend almost $10K for those two units!!! (This design was from an online company two years ago, so I don't have access to the account project anymore). Any suggestions? Pottery Barn items are coming up to be close to the price of RH. I did find a very cheap IKEA option, Havsta, but I don't know about the quality and the design will of course be quite different. There is a Crate and Barrel option which is made of metal but the sides are glass!

Would appreciate any input. Cheers!

Depends on your preference: what/how you will be storing in the cabinet, or having items hidden/a surface/large art.

Both are good options with a couple caveats:

Tall cabinets can overwhelm a small/narrow room or a room without generous windows. It is best to have attractive well-curated displays for the visible shelves.

Buffets with artwork over them look best when the artwork/frames are proportionally sized to the buffet and hung/spaced correctly. It’s also important to have great art/photos in each frame. Not a fan of family photos for this situation.

Hi @Patricia Colwell Consulting, the space and table is as it is on the second photo. That is the exact table and chairs that I have. The area rug is the same as well. Floorplan is below.

@Maureen, are those chairs and tables yours? They are quite similar to mine!

I'd go for art and not spend on the RH. Wayfair and RH are from the same Chinese factories at different price points.

I think a long buffet surface there would be more useful than a small one off to the side. If you have several nice display items, you could use floating shelves above the buffet unit, same wood and finish the furniture piece. It's the functionality and cohesive look of a hutch cabinet, with a more modern streamlined look and lower cost.

The option with buffet gallery wall looks nice but if you're looking for more storage at a reasonable price take a look at Ikea's Billy Series in black and simply replace the knobs for nicer ones.

@dani_m08 Thank you for that detailed reply!

I find especially interesting that hack where they put the strip of marble. However, on looking at it closely, it looks like they raised the top cabinets a bit, perhaps with some wood?

The inspiration picture is from Pinterest. I try to provide a similar look when possible to help with imagining an outcome. I really like your table/chairs and either decision will work, with dimensions and balance being important.
