have you tried the bed on the inside wall (the bathroom wall)?

I prefer to have my windows free of furniture so I can walk up to them.

What pieces of furniture do you need to use?

Was looking to add a seating area. The room feels too big and too small at the same time. This is where we have the bed right now.

I like how your room looks you could add a chair and small table and a good reading lamp . I like it as it is maybe just change up the bedding and get it out of your system. I am a firm believer in less is more very often. Maybe the 2 chairs could go where I as thinking one but for sure no room in front of the large window for 2 chairs IMO.

I’d move the rug towards your dresser more, so the nightstands are not on it.

You could also think about moving your closet door closer to the entrance door. That would give you more space on that wall for a seating area.

I’m trying to decide what bedroom furniture pieces should come first after moving into a new home.

I don’t want to buy a full matching set right away if I don’t actually need every piece. I’d rather start with the basics and add more once I understand the room better.

My first list would probably be:

Mattress

Bed frame

One nightstand, maybe two later

Dresser or closet organizer

Bedside lamp

Extra storage only if needed

A bed and mattress feel like the obvious priority. After that, I think storage matters most, especially if the closet is small. I’m less sure about benches, vanities, shelves, or a full dresser and nightstand set right away.

For anyone who furnished a bedroom after moving, what did you buy first? Did you start with only the essentials, or did you buy a full bedroom set from the beginning?

I would keep the bed between the two windows — it gives the room a strong, balanced focal point. The next step is deciding what overall atmosphere you want before adding more furniture. The same basic layout can feel completely different depending on the lighting, wall treatment, textiles and color palette. Once you choose the style, I’d add wider nightstands, full-length curtains and a larger rug that extends well beyond both sides of the bed.
