Front Door - help

last month

Not sure if I should keep these doors. Was thinking about painting black?? Or replacing with full glass storm doors (black)??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

if your interior door is a half lite, I would keep the storm door a half lite.

If you like black, paint the storm doors black.

I would have just one fuller pot under the house numbers as a feature,

    rather than flanking the doors.

A larger rug to fill the space would add interest.

I rarely see double doors that look good on a house.

I would change the whole door unit to a unit with a single door and two sidelites.

Thank you all - great ideas. I have a large rug but with the nasty weather I have it in the garage. I’m going to do something with the brick porch as well. Not sure - any ideas for that. Thinking about a lime wash or German schmear. I agree with removing the double doors but not in the budget this year. 😔

You can use a concrete stain on the brick pavers, but not limewash. It will never withstand walking traffic.

Love your door. I would remove the storm door and paint the double doors a color (not black) possibly the color of the bricks.

Then no wreaths and 1 pot to the left of the door. Keep the plantings in the pot a bit lower than the house number. No point of it if it is blocked. Put a cushion on the bench that matches the door. Have the bricks repointed.

Love that. Going to give it a try. Thank you so much 😊

Those are absolutely beautiful. Thank you ☺️

Double Dutch doors were very popular for the period and in white seem appropriate for this home.

I like the suggested new doors with sidelines, and if we are suggesting big changes, I would move the door a foot to the left, away from the corner.

I would have a door with only ONE single side lite on the right. It would create a better centered look. Black would look great!

I like the existing doors. They are charming and have character. Paint if you prefer.

I agree with avairy who posted above. The problem is that the door is not centered. The white is fine bc your trim is white (unless you are going to change that too). Get a door with one sidelite on the right side. Place a plant under your house numbers only. Maybe even put some planter boxes along the left edge to draw your eye out of that right side corner.

I would paint the color of your choice, but has to blend with the brick so you have to stay in the warm brown/beige/orange tones, or green which is opposite on the color wheel. The lightest color is where the eye goes, and that door is not where you want to draw focus. A clear door over a nice colored main door would be nice - green would go with the brick and blend with the walls. I would remove the fake shutters - fake shutters make a house look cheap. A bigger issue than the door is the brick a different pattern would be much nicer - whoever did that had no imagination. It is worth re-doing and doing it nice. Either herring bone, or 2 bricks going one way and two the other in a checkerboard pattern would be nice.

Remove the flower pot to the right of the door and that corner will open up. The pot blocks the door visually even if you don't use that side.

Remove the wreaths and let the door detail be the focus. A large welcome mat.

I would definitely paint the doors black but only the inner french doors. Keep the white storm doors. My front door is painted shiny black with white glass storm door and i also have brick and black shutters and almost the same paint color on my house (resort tan), and it looks very nice. Aslo, consider painting the wide white trim panels above the window the house color.. The way it is now is too mobilehome-ish looking. Just have one wreath on the left door. A different planter that is round would soften all the angles and with a shorter plant that doesnt block the plaque on the wall..the one you have is too tall. Find a place to put the 2 matching ones somewhere else..maybe on each side of steps? Also, the open drop to the bed on the left side of the whole porch is kind of strange looking. Something needs to be there..maybe a short panel of railing in black by the door and one on steps just to anchor the look better. You can buy a stair panel and a strait panel, or do the whole porch area because it looks like you do not have a step down into the garden bed...they screw into the concrete or brick with masonry bolts so its not like its a major ordeal. And lastly, just powerwash the brick and keep it clean...its pretty the way it is. : )

Great idea, paint the doors bla k and pressure was the brick. Black doors look ama,ING with a bla k door. Nobody that mine was going to look good , but then I did it anyway. They all loved it because it looked amazing.

Love the black railing idea. This porch has been an eye sore since we purchased the house. Nothing is centered making it so difficult to decorated. Never thought of painting the area above the window. Great idea. The brick porch needs something other than power washing. It has apparently been patched over the years. Going to try the stain - not sure if that will work or not. But worth a try.

I would remove the storm doors, put full unobstructed view screen doors. Paint the interior doors. I would love to see aN open cable rail going across the open side of the porch, it would add a lot of interest and a clean line. Also, just one beautiful full pot/urn to the left of the door.

It’s a nice entry way; and if you replace the double doors with a single, that will help. The bench is too big for the space; you don’t want to place anything on the porch against the house.
