The wall tiles are very cool. Floor tiles not so much. The colors don't work well either--the green wall tiles and the brown tub not good. Vanity/sink/mirror area not great either.

How long do you plan to remain in the house? If for the long haul, I'd save up for a full renovation. If you have a short-term horizon, perhaps get peel and stick tiles for the floor, or cover it with a rug?

Is the tub brown or Avocado green? Clean the tile grout and find a wallpaper to tie together the colours.

The right paint color is going to make your wall tile sing. It is so hard to tell colors on a monitor so hard to make a good suggestion. It seems slightly green-ish, in which case I'd like to see a warm neutral, a white with a bit of red undertone. Something like Farrow and Ball Dimity.

Find a shower curtain you love and keep it closed all of the time to hide the shower.

Are a new vanity, medicine cabinet, and light in your budget?

Your closet is empty. Get some good organizers and move thing off of your countertop and into the closet.

If the goal is lipstick ?

Change the top on the vanity and new sink and faucet, Hide the almond/brown tub with a new shower curtain. Paint the walls , the trim and RIP the floor to new.

Lose the medicine cabinet, dry wall, hang a FREE hanging mirror and yes, ignore the new MIRROR will hang over the tile above/behind vanity,

But in a perfect world? You rip it all and start over : ) The tile isn't that great, and neither is all the rest.

What do you REALLY want and how long are you staying?

The tiles are nice, but it will be very difficult to do the vanity over and keep the tiles unless you have extra tiles.

The olive and sage is a very nice color combo and goes well with the wood window frame. Your sink, bath and toilet are all different colors. The vanity looks cheap and, although I hate the word, dated. Ditto the mirrored cabinet. Replacing them with wood that matches the window frame and has well-thought-out storage to fit your needs would go a long way. A cabinet that was the length of the vanity would be good.

Paint the walls a warm cream and get a shower curtain and bath mat that matches your colors.

If you get a new vanity with a bigger footprint than the old one, the tiles will be fine. Given that the bottom of your existing vanity is smaller than the top, you should be able to find something that fits the space and has a bigger footprint at the bottom.

Do you really love any of it? Or is it just "meh" that you are hoping can be made cool with some new wallpaper and a new sink?

Thank you so much for these excellent thoughts/ideas. To answer the above question(s), I think it's pretty awful (though growing on me...), but since we just bought the place and moved in and are spending a ton on the kitchen and porch, etc (this is the master bath), I thought I'd spruce it up for the time being with a new vanity, mirror, and lighting, although point taken about difficulty of replacing vanity if we don't have extra tiles (we don't)... I think it's true that the right paint color could also make a difference (I like Dimity, above). Also wonder whether getting one of those color changes on the tub to white might be a thing -- or does it come out tacky?) .Thoughts on light fixture?

For a quick not too expensive fix, install vinyl floor tiles (if the floor is on level can be installed over existing ceramic tiles- Home Depot). Have the bathtub re-enamelled. Paint the walls in a warm white. Replace the sink, faucet, mirror, vanity light. Install a roman shade on window. Most items can be found at good prices on Amazon.

I think first we need to know what you mean by cool and IMO I needto know what you love in there too. IMO this in my world would be agut but the wall tiles are okay the floor awful the sink and vanity bad and the tub well definately interesting. How much are you willing to spend, can you DIY any of this ? The vanity could be painted high gloss in a colr that matches the tub then a simple white counter and sink The toilet is okay IMO take the door off that storage add glass shelves then get some cool storage jars and containers pretty towels and get all that stuff off the counter . The mirror instead of a medicine cabinet and a new bath bar light A Paint job and IMO the color for that the same as the wall tiles . A hower curtain with a design that is mostly white but a touch of the tile and tub color in it. ot just plain white That floor has to be covered for sure there are vinyl floorings thta just lay on top no need to glue down Tarkett is one .

@lisedv shows a beautiful plan. I disagree, though, on enamelling the brown tub. It never holds up. Just get a shower curtain that hides the tub. Get a vanity with a footprint that fits over what you have. I don't think the floor tiles are all that bad especially if you get a nice light tan rug down that matches wall paint.

Since you just moved in, you'll have a million things you'll want to change inside and out. The ideas everyone has will make your master bath really attractive until you're ready, if ever, to do a big renovation.

such good advice already - if it were me, I would clean the room with an inch of its life and get everything off the counter top and into small plastic baskets in the closet. +fluffy white towels

I would also get a neutral washable rug to cover a good chunk of the flooring (I would do a seagrass or sisal look) - + bamboo shade at the window

I would get an uber simple shower curtain (custom length so it hits just above the floor (hiding the tub) and have wider than standard shower curtain so there's some fullness - there are tons of well priced options on Etsy)

lastly - I *might* wallpaper the room, esp if I could pull the floor and tiles together with it

The shower curtain should be the type that has a liner that stays inside the tub while the pretty part stays outside.

The woods in the room are nice together and go with the tile. Refresh them with a wipe-on polyurethane coating.

To me, other than the wall fixtures, the only major thing that could use replacing right now is the sink/faucet.

The floor tiles seem perfectly fine. If linoleum, you could tear it out and replace with linoleum for now if you don't like the pattern.

For overhead, an exhaust fan/light combo is always a nice idea....and they make them with heaters now.
