Start spreading manure,
We're leaving the snow
We want to grow our roses withouuuuut the cold.
These vagabond clogs are longing to sink

Original Author5 months agolast modified: 5 months agoWindowsill - thanks about my roses being ahead of schedule. I'm sooo happy to be outside with everything growing so well!!! I can't express how happy I am to have green things growing, to hear the birds and to be part of life!! I love summer!! I can't remember. Do your roses grow for you all winter too? If so, that's a pretty amazing thing! The massage is pretty painful, but it works for me. If I had a TENS at home, I'd use it. Maybe I should check them out online. I agree, rose people are the best people. :) :) Ah, I see...dementia in both families. We have that too. But, my husband's dad had vascular dementia (smoking), so that's reassuring since Don doesn't smoke. I read in a magazine (Discover?) that SSRIs (antidepressants that raise your seratonin help with not getting dementia...I take that...so that's positive.) I hope that you and your partner live a happy and dementia-free life. :) That's a nice surprise to come home and see buds, new basal growth and cherry tomatoes ripening. Life is good. :) Such a sweet bloom on your NLGP...notorious reminds me of Natasha and Boris from Bullwinkle. lo
Diane - oh, that's great that you have so many roses in bloom!! Jemma (two "m"s or one?) needs to come by and help you load your pictures so we can see them. :) My roses are all going to bloom in a week or two. My Violet's Pride has over 30 buds, which for my roses is a lot! :) :) Happy, happy rose dance!! We've had terrible tree pollen too!! It's finally stopped, but the long seeds(?) that look like caterpillars are everywhere. We filled our green bin up with them from just a tiny part of the lawn. Horrid. Oh, no, bindweed. I wish you luck with that. Rats. Oh, I didn't know that you looked after your mom for years. Didn't she die when you were in your teens? If so, that was extra difficult. Or am I totally off base? I'm so very, very glad that you won't be getting dementia. :) :)
My Japanese anemone, the invasive little darlings, are blooming in my garden now. They're so cheerful. Also blooming are my Bachelor's Buttons, dandelions (ugh), alliums, and Cranesbill geraniums. My short, little Snowball bush's blooms may open any day now! :) :) Oh, and one of my tiny, itty bitty Morden Sunrise plants has a bud. :) :)
Oh, Diane, I finished the book. I REALLY liked it!!! That was a very good read!! That's 2 books that I bought on your recommendation that were excellent! Thanks so much!- 5 months agolast modified: 5 months ago

Waiting on my new A&A-Eufloria ” Blushing Parasol ,” to grow & bloom more…… I saw a you tube video of her. She blooms usually in clusters-huge bloom clusters…. photos from video below…..
BLUSHING PARASOL
Each cluster may have 20-25 blooms! Unbelievable-Great for a bouquet!

Tall canes with cluster blooms on ends! Wow!
Added internet photo-she is muti-colored.
I have one Blushing Parasol in a pot and I ordered a 2nd Blushing Parasol to come in a week. She is spectacular! Her colors are cream to light pink-peach to medium pink and peaches. My first Blushing Parasil Blooms…

Carol,Maybe next year you can order from A&A?
rosecanadian thanked KittyNY6 - 5 months agolast modified: 5 months ago
Kitty -- Thanks for your kind words, and your roses are looking great! That Julietta Cerise bloom is so pretty. At first, I thought it was one of your fancy tulips. Blushing Parasol is lovely, as well; I really like the blend of colors on that one.
Carol -- I love summer, as well, and it's my favorite season despite the many hot, humid days we get here. My roses do keep growing in the winter, as they get some really strong winter sun through the south-facing windows, but they definitely slow down. When the days started getting longer this spring, I noticed they started to put out a lot of new growth. That's good to know about SSRIs. I'm on one as well, so maybe it'll help in the long-run!
Diane -- I'll have to make a mini salad with my three ripening cherry tomatoes :) But there are more to come soon. I think those yellow pear-shaped tomatoes are the most elegant cherry tomatoes. Bindweed is awful! Earlier this spring, I'd posted a picture of a honey-colored rose that grows in my neighborhood, and last summer, they let nearly the entire shrub become wrapped up in bindweed. Oh well... So, you know what it's like to be a caregiver and what a toll it can take. My mom is really tough (much tougher than I am), but I know she must feel depleted by the years of caregiving. I'm relieved, in a way, that she'll finally be able to start recovering and regaining some aspects of her life that have been put on hold for a long time.

Original Author5 months agolast modified: 5 months agoKitty - My back still has a ways to go. That's for sure. It should loosen up when I go outside to look at the roses. :) Supposed to be 31C/88F today. Pretty hot. Starting Monday, our temps are more mild...in the low 70s. Much better. My Snowball is a bit older than yours is. Although, mine is still pretty tiny. I'll take a picture once it blooms. Oh, your temps are awful...53, 60F...blech. Wow, then you get really hot temps. I guess that's better than 50F. Good that you can be finishing up the yard. That will be fulfilling. Julietta Cerise wins for first bloom of your new roses. She's a beauty!! That first pic is wow!! Your garden rose, Juliet...is that an Austin? Those are weird buds on Summer's Romance. :) :) Show us the before and after bud/bloom when it opens. Your rose bushes look great!! Your Blushing Parasol bloom is lovely...I can see why you bought another one, especially if it blooms in clusters! I don't know if I'll order from A&A. It depends on how my roses do this year. As of now, there are only 4 roses that I may not keep. And I can easily get 4 replacements from Canada. But we'll see. :)
I did a tally of how many roses I have from certain breeders.

The rest are Tantaus (not sure how they'll do), a few Kordes and Austins and some NIRP, etc.
Looks like I really like Carruth and Bedard roses the best.
Windowsill - I think that's wonderful that you get blooms in the winter. What a great benefit to gardening indoors. Yes, hopefully, the SSRIs will help us. :)- 5 months ago
Carol -- Your yard must smell like the most divine perfume when all those roses are in bloom. I happened to smell Barbra Streisand at a nursery when I was out in CA, and wow -- amazing fragrance.
rosecanadian thanked windowsill_gardener rosecanadian
Original Author5 months agoWindowsill...I can't wait to smell a Barbra Streisand bloom!! :) :) No, my yard doesn't benefit from rose fragrances...too dry here. But, I don't mind sticking my nose in a bloom to smell the fragrances...but I have to be careful of the bees that are in there. lol
Two of my roses have opened their buds. White Licorice and Harlow Carr. They both smell great! I'll take pictures later today or tomorrow. Two small blooms, but I'm very happy!- 5 months agolast modified: 5 months ago
Carol,
Your garden roses are already blooming!!! Harlow will put on an abundant blooming show eventually! Wowza, she’s blooming now! And White Licorice is a bloomin’ too! Does she smell yummy licorice? Mmmmmmmm!
Thank you about my garden roses-they look healthy-dark green-best ever! blooms in next couple days with plenty of sun coming out. A bloomer-Julietta Cerise and buds almost open on a few roses now. Juliet looks like will open in 1-2 days. However, my 2 Munstead W have buds ready to open, too!!! Tons if buds on all roses now. Today Sunday 60F, but tomorrow 73F then Tuesday 85F, 90 F Wednesday! Surely lots of blooms!
88F was a hot day for you-really boost your roses to bloom! And soak your toes keep them cool! LOL! Keep on soaking-back will improve daily-wonder if you will leaf out & grow roots, too? Plenty if sun would help you to thrive! LOL! 60F for you-cool. Lower 70sF for you coming-good! (Your weather sooo close to mine-amazing!) Oh, you only have 4 roses you may replace…. I have only a few I may dig up left, also. Keep adding more…YES! One more never hurts! LOL! . oh, My My! But, Blushing Paradol is so beautiful! Your list of roses & breeders is amazing…..So Caruth & Bedards win the prize for roses you like most! . I dont know yet in my garden….. we will see which florist roses -breeders-do best??
Your Snowball may still bloom? Maybe mine will bloom-it has no buds.
Oh, Oh Oh!!!
I think the mature Snowballs are in bloom in my area. I saw a Snowball blooming in a neighborhood yesterday…..I have seen a few of these around my city lately! Must be Snowballs!

I have the Kerns Pink Snowball-Japanese viburnum , for zone 5. The Japanese Snowball viburnum also comes in white blooms, too.Chinese Snowballs are zoned 6-9, but tolerate colder I read today.
PRUNING:
I read to prune viburnum right after flower fades by summer. However, hydrangeas are to prune after winter in eatly spring-same as roses.
How to tell if it’s a viburnum or hydrangea? Viburnum have late spring blooms, short lived, 6-10 feet tall, they are done blooming by summer start. Hydrangeas are 3-5 feet usually like the Maple Leaf Hydrangea l & start blooming lastest soring-after viburnum bloom, hydrangeas bloom all the way through summer-fall.
Pannicle hydrangeas are largest hydrangea, though, can be 3-15ft if you don’t prune back a lot, such as Vanilla Strawberry H. & Firelight.
Windowsill,
I hope you are feeling better and your mother does well now. It is a change of life style after a father passes. Sending more prayers and blessings! Thank you regarding my roses. They keep trying to grow through the rain. I think I have like a ”monsoon season March-April-May,” LOL ! It’s a new season for NY! However, garden roses did well through it! They are just blooming later this year, but look very healthy! The porch roses are ok….some growing faster now…they are happier now it’s more sunny. Blushing Parasol may be my fave of these new A&A roses! Although, Gelato with glossy leaves, very big, is doing super well just transplanted into the garden! Chantilly Lace & Monmartre are growing super well, the biggest, too! Other porch roses are good!
rosecanadian thanked KittyNY6 - 5 months ago
Kitty, Blushing Parasol is very pretty.
Carol, that's great that all that hard work paid off and you are a month ahead of usual. A TENS machine sounds a good idea.
windowsill, Sorry to read about your dad, but so good that you got to say goodbye to him. It sure is a cruel disease.
Where's Diane? Lost in the bindweed? I'm lucky that's one weed I've never come across.
I used to get a wonderful Autumn flush out of my Teas, but I got not much at all from my new roses. I have been debating whether to keep Schone Maid - it's got 8' canes and hardly bloomed and has got BS pretty badly since all the rain. Last night I dreamt I was pruning it and planning to replant it in a garden that I had almost 50 years ago. The mind is a funny thing.
Some Winter colour.

Original Author5 months agoKitty - I hope my Harlow Carr canes get some more stiffness to them. They're very arching and a few don't even arch, but flop. I'm going to give it more time, for sure. White Licorice smells good to me. I don't know if the scent is licorice, but, to me, it's indescribable. I love it! I smelled a Pop Art bud that's just starting to open, and the fragrance was incredible!!! Fruity, maybe? Oh my!!! Yes, those warm temps will surely open some buds. We've had a terrible wind storm...incredible winds...130km/hour or 80 miles/hour!! Broke one cane off a rose, but otherwise things seem fine. Today was still not very nice. Starting to get better starting tomorrow. My back is doing well, except for the mornings. Then it loosens up and feels great. I think I'll stop going to massage therapy. LOL, yes, I can feel some roots starting to sprout. :) :) I can't add more roses than I have pots for or room in the garage. But, I have a few empty pots still and about 4 roses or so I'll probably get rid of. So that's a nice number. One of them is Pink Promise...blooms a nice amount, but the leaves always have PM. And I don't want to spray. I have quite a few new Tantau/Evers roses, so I'll see if I like them. So far I am. :) My Snowball has 2 blooms on it. They're about 2 inches and green. :) :) Yours probably won't bloom this year if there's no buds...but who knows. Ooooh!! Holy cow!!! That's a GORGEOUS Snowball!!! That's what I want mine to look like!!!!!!! I'm excited to see your pink Snowball blooms!!! Thanks for the pruning info...I wrote it down in my book. I'll just prune off the Snowball flowers and nothing else since it's so small. I'm excited that hydrangeas bloom all summer...amazing!! I have 2 Fire Light and one Skyfall hydrangeas. I wish I hadn't gotten 2 Fire Light hydrangeas...I'd rather have 3 unique hydrangeas. I'm glad all of your roses are doing so well!!! Roses...happy sigh. :) :)
Trish - yeah, I don't know where Diane is. I hope she's just annoyed with the weather or the bindweed and is okay. It feels great to have a month extra of rose growing time. My bushes are as tall as they usually are by the end of the season. Hmmmm...so either you want to keep this rose or you want it gone, but are too scentimental to get rid of it. That's no help. :) So can you overwinter the orchids outside or do they come inside when the temps get cooler? I love that orchid...exuberantly healthy!! So unusual to see somebody growing orchids and poinsettia outside :) That's a sweet Threads and Crafts bloom. :
My mother-in-law (who I've been getting along with so much better) fell going up our deck stairs. My husband caught her, but, she's so fragile (92 years old and about 80 lbs) that he crushed her elbow bones (and he caught her using his arm that was broken...not much strength in the hand). She's in the hospital now and she needs surgery to get a new elbow. I can't believe this happened to her. She's been so healthy, living independently in a retirement place. She does weights with 5 lbs dumbbells. She walks on the treadmill. She's gregarious with everyone she meets. She's the perfect candidate for living an even longer life. And she did this on our watch. Ugh. I hope she gets through this, but surgeries are tricky at her age. Please say a pray or two for her.- 5 months ago
Carol, what a shame that happened to your m-i-l. It could have happened anywhere, with no Don around. How brittle her bones must be. Good that you're getting on so much better. Did the Good Fairy pay her a visit?! My m-i-l fell in her bath when no-one was there. She was 93 and one of the loveliest people I have ever met.
My orchids stay outside all year. I wouldn't have them otherwise. Couldn't do what you and Don do.
rosecanadian thanked titian1 10b Sydney - 5 months ago
Trish, are those cymbidium orchids? A lot of folks grow those here outside year-round, and we have several local nurseries that specialize in them. I used to have quite a few, but no longer. Your gorgeous pic reminds me that I should get another one or two :-D
Carol, so sorry to hear about your MIL. Poinsettias grow well outside here year-round. Most end up in yards from people plunking their Christmas plants in the yard. Here's a pic from a very unkempt home and yard in my neighborhood with a Poinsettia going up above the eaves. I took it around Thanksgiving to show a friend in OK who couldn't wrap her head around the concept. This plant definitely receives no care!
rosecanadian thanked susan9santabarbara - 5 months ago
Susan, yes, they're cymbidiums. So easy. People plonk Christmas poinsettias in the ground here, me included.
rosecanadian thanked titian1 10b Sydney rosecanadian
Original Author5 months agoTrish - Thanks about my m-i-law. I suppose you're right, but I can't stop thinking that it happened on our watch. Hopefully, her surgery will be on Monday. I think it was my behavior that changed. Instead of waiting for zingers to land from her, I gave her more love. She really turned around after that. Should have done that ages ago. She holds my hand now and really shows her love. Oh, that's so sad about your darling m-i-law. We all have to be so careful as we age. It takes just a moment of inattention, and I worry about my balance problems, too. Orchids that can stay outside all year long...we live in such different climates!
Susan - thanks, Susan. Another place where Poinsettias grow outside year round. Seems so strange. And, wow!!!! I can't believe how huge that Poinsettia is...and it's uncared for. Remarkable.- 5 months ago

Carol, Trish, Windowsill, Susan, ,
Everyone,
Diane was talking about removing bind weed & JBeard on Friday evening and that was her last post. Today is Monday morning. Anyone heard from her?
Where is everyone?Has summer set in yet?
Today it’s mild warm outside at 10am, 71F , cool shady, but will reach 82F this afternoon.
Shall do major gardening tomorrow. I see sime bugs…. time for home remedies on the roses. I saw a huge bee yesterday enjyong the allium.

I am concerned about Diane, too. I wish her family would let us know. My prayers for her. i hope she is ok.
Today
Juliet is defintely opening first almost today….Munstead W. 2nd.
I gave Ana a hair cut & took day off today. I will take Ana to groomer in a week. I’d like to groom her myself once in awhile-it’s $100 a month for her hair cuts usually. She looks pretty good when I’m done-great bath! Then I took her out in the yard & guess what she pounced on while on my leash? A hiding ground hog. I saw him for the first time yesterday. Ana pounced & barked at the ground hog and he froze underneath Ana.
Ana doesn’t know to attack. (Glad the ground hog froze instead of turning & attacking Ana. I told Ana to ”leave it and pulled her quickly away..) Ground hog ran off. Ana ”loved her find!” Very happy! She quickly lost interest as I walked her away. Just another play thing for her like the cats that mom wont let her chase & play with. Ana has no idea that groubd hogs are not safe to chase & pounce on. (Ground hogs can attack a dog if cornered-not good! )
I was supposed to garden, buy soil…. but it’s too late in the day now…there’s always tomorrow! …..

Diane is fine and working in her garden, says Samantha, a message frim Ben. Refer to Diane B Houzz thread… Yipee!
Bees are huge-Lots of them in my area. 59F is cool-I had that few days ago. Probably will warm up for you now… It feels like late soring forvme & plenty warm, but were cool nights.
Diane,
We miss you!! Please let us know how you and your garden are doing?
Garden Time
Yesterday was 81F but seemed cool-part cloudy day. Just wore soring clothes & ciat at night. Roses dried in pots so I finally watered them. They have been so damp with rain-I haven’t watered in a long time. I tossed rannunculus-started them a month too late-they were not mature to bloom-just green in April-May, & are now gone-too hot. No worries-theyvare too much work….I’d rather focus on easier roses!
89F today, looks sunny. More spring clothing still…. not sure if it will be hot…. it has been feeling cool even when high temps lartely, but today nights warm up 58-65F so may be hot today.
Ok…. garden day…. Lowes to buy soil….. plant the Cream Verandas & spread a little soil.
All 3 of my new rides are shipped-on their way…. Chocolate Romatica, Sharitetowa (Shari Macaroon,) and Blushing Parasil.
Shari rose delivers today!

Original Author5 months agoKitty - yes, I just read that on the other thread. I guess I overreacted. It's just that Diane's never stayed away this long before. Phew...I'm SO relieved!!! Go Juliet and Munstead!! I wish, my dogs' haircuts were only $100. Teddy is $180 and Sugar is $130. I get them shaved right down and let it grow out quite long to help with the costs. It's outrageous how much it costs. Really!!! She found a groundhog!! Teddy would have killed it, for sure. I don't know if Sugar would have. Ana is a gentle soul, looking for fun!! :) So are you worried that the groundhog will uproot your roses? Maybe it was so scared that it won't come back. Good thing the groundhog didn't attack her. Phew! Today will be 20C/68F. Warmer, and it's sunny outside. Great day! Yes, focus on roses...they're our pride and glory!! I've been sprinkling grass seed and dirt on some bald patches in the lawn. White Licorice's bloom has opened up. My best smelling rose is Life of the Party. Wow!! I couldn't find any of the 3 new roses you're getting on hmf. I've seen your pics of Blushing Parasol. I'm excited to see their blooms. I'm still waiting for my two roses from Heirloom: Big Purple and Mme Dubost. Your lilacs are ahead of mine. Mine will bloom soon, though. Awaiting with glee for your photos!!

I wonder what Life of the Party smells like-she’s a very pretty colorful rose? Gotta get photos of my yummy scented lilacs-she’s a big 6 ft bush finally & best blooms this year! I also haveca pink 2 ft lilac in a pot-no blooms yet. Is your lilac lavendar & in the full sun? My lilac gets a part shade/sun so blooms less-but lovely! Hope they ship your Mme Dubost & Big Purple soon-those are both fabulous roses-nice big bloomers!

Juliet is just about to unveil petsls…. photos coming.
Wow! Prices high on dig grooming in Canada! I sonetimes pay $80 if Ana dord every 4 weeks & is clean, but usually $100. I’m going to start shaving her nyself every other month, then do groomer alternate months to save. Ground hogs are dangerous, can bit fogs face needing stitches. I am azed we got off with no attack. Ana was right on top of the ground hog. A large dog could do a ground hog in, if a real hunter like your Teddy. We need to protect Sugar & Anastasia.

I think the ground hog likes my well watered grass. And now if I put my lettuce out-she might eat it-uh, Oh! I am hoping Ana scared the g. hog & she won’t come back. May not eat roses. I will have lots of strawberries which she may like, too. Grapes & blueberries in the future-a real feast for a g. hog-Oh, My My! Hope she’s very scared to come back!My Sharitotewa (Shari Macaroon rose) came today & I potted her asap. She’s out on porch-mostly no leaves but starting to leaf out-tiny baby canes, but tall. . She is a H. Tea rose with lilac-cafe-mauve blooms-cupped large blooms. Can’t wait to see her grow & bloom!

I just wanted to pop on for a quick hi and to say how glad I am that Diane is OK. (We miss you, Diane! I hope you've conquered the bindweed.)
Trish -- I much prefer your version of winter color to what counts as winter color around here (though I do love witchhazel and the red of crabapples). Your cymbidiums are beautiful. My brother has a big pot of them out in CA, and they do seem quite carefree, as you say. For some reason, I've never been able to warm up to the poinsettias they sell at the holidays wrapped in colored foil. I much prefer what yours looks like, growing naturally.
Carol -- I'm like you and will just go from rose to rose smelling each one. Yesterday, I came across a Scentimental in my neighborhood that I hadn't noticed before and had to indulge in more than one sniff! I don't really have allergies, but when I go to the botanical gardens nearby, I stick my nose in so many roses that the pollen really gets to me and I have to take breaks. :) I'm so glad your MIL is recovering well, and that's wonderful news about Kedra. Just the thought of "no more exams" gives me a sense of relief, even after all these years of being out of school. Enjoy your Pop Art blooms. I've only smelled it once, at a nursery, and I remember the scent was outstanding.
Kitty -- Thank you again for your kind words. Your garden sounds like it must be beautiful right now! I remember thinking your Georgia Peach was one of the loveliest florist roses I've seen, so that's great it looks like it's going to put on a nice show this year. Just saw the MW and Juliet you posted -- gorgeous blooms.
A random photo from today -- a Beverly bloom with a Coral Charm peony (from the store).

Original Author5 months agoKitty - Thanks about my m-i-law. She wants me to go and stay with her for a while at her independent living apartment at a large retirement center. Don doesn't want me to go. But, I'll go. She'll need help. She is going to get HomeCare twice/day. :) She's still in the hospital now though. Kedra's exam went okay. She gave up studying after Sunday...was so sick of studying. And there were parts that she though wouldn't be on the test...of course, they were. lol But, she just has to get 70% and that's a pass. She thinks she will. What a relief to not have to study anymore. Every day, she's been studying for hours. Blech. Thanks for the prayers for her. I sniffed my Easy on the Eyes today, and the fragrance was INCREDIBLE!!! Swoon-worthy!! Life of the party has tons of buds...the fragrance is citrusy and really strong...wonderful!!! I would love to smell Mme Anisette's fragrance. I could have gotten it, but I would rather have roses with stronger colors. My Miss Kim (standard) lilacs are almost ready to pop the flower buds open. My lilacs get part sun/part shade, but still bloom a ton. Maybe yours is too young to bloom its best? Don't you just love lilac fragrance?!! Mmmm :) :) My Mme Dubost and Peter Mayle are on the way...they may come tomorrow...or else next Thursday...I didn't see a date on the email notification...just Thursday. Yes, I'm so glad that all worked out well with Diane and with Ben reaching out to her daughter. :) :) Hey...wtg Munstead Wood!!! What did you think of the fragrance, or didn't you want to lie on the grass to smell the bloom? lol Yes, I'm hoping the groundhog won't come back...that was probably pretty scary for it. You have a lot of yummy things to eat in your yard...I really, hope the varmint doesn't come back. I'll let you borrow Teddy. :) Ooooh...your Sharitotewa rose sounds wonderful...the coloring mmmmm :) I really love the first pic you posted of MW...that coloring!!! And your first pic of Juliet...so very sweet looking...I love that color. Yum!!! Your strawberry looks delicious...mine are still flowers or just little, green berries growing. I love your lilacs!!! Sooo many buds...I especially love your MIP bud!! I can barely stand waiting for all of my buds to open. It's such an exciting time of year. Look at those cute blueberries!!! That picture could be framed...so darling...I'd frame it in a blueberry colored frame. :) I didn't know they looked like that before they turn blue. You have lots of fruit growing. Do you eat your currants? Make them into jam?
Windowsill - Yes, I'm so glad that she's okay, too. :) :) Oh, yes, we're rose smelling buddies. lol I go from rose to rose and stare and sniff. It's an intoxicating hobby. That's cute...nose overload from sniffing too many roses. lol Thanks about my m-i-law and Kedra. :) :) I was pretty worried about my m-i-law. Right? lol, no more exams, for life!!! lol I was wrong, it wasn't Pop Art (blooms haven't opened yet), it was Life of the Party. What an incredible fragrance...same with my Easy on the Eyes. Oh my!! Oh, my sweet goodness...that PEONY!!!! SWOOOON!!!!! Bevery is a beauty too, but the peony is unsurpassable. :)- 5 months agolast modified: 5 months ago
Windowsill,
Munsread W. has always tried to be the first bloomer in my garden for last several years & usually another rose blooms surprisingly before her, but not this season. She is a soectacular bloomer-love her color. Thank you regarding Juliet & MW. Coral Charm peony is beautiful and I think Diane has her. I have a soon to bloom coral peony, but not sure of her bame-came in a mix of peonies few years ago. This year my coral oeony is large bushy- ready to bloom. Your Beverly has a lovely bloom-she has nice shape for bouquets. i am really looking forward to Georgia Peach blooms this second year to see her clusters abd what sge can really do. florist rosrs wouod do well for you-many are smaller busges like P. Kishi & Georgia Peach.
Carol,
I hope your visit helping your MIL is pleasant and goes well. I know you are needed at home, and good not to stay too long at MIL. Does she live far from your home? Otherwise, you could just drop by to visit occassionally & see if she’s ok. Professional help is better-less personal. Kedra sounds ready for her exam-wishing her blessings! Easy of the Eyes is a spectacular bloomer and she has a yummy scent too-niceeeeeee! I’d love to see photos? Your garden is all coming alive with your lilac ready to pop into blooms-She is probably more mature than my lilac. My lilac is about 4 yrs old, but in a corner of the yard where a large 100 ft neighbor tree shades my lilac in much of the afternoon-not much ever can grow in that spot, but I am delighted the lilac is finally having a good amount of blooms-6 ft now.
Exciting to hear your Mme Dubist & PM are on their way-estimate about a week to deliver. Mme Dubost will have a big plump bud like my MIP-much to look forward to! Many thanks-regarding my blooming roses………Shari rose is an exciting new addition-her coloring is so tantalizing! it’s exciting seeing their buds color up and some opening! Munstead blooming first was really a surprise-seeing her hidden on the ground. I need to smell her-I always forget to smell my roses! I will try her scent today-thanks for the reminder! However, the roses I prune less or not at all usually bloom first & this Munstead W own-root was new last year so I didn’t prune her but a tad, so she had a jump start to bloom. My roses pruned way down 6 inches are mostly grown out, but slower than the taller pruned ones. Borrowing Teddy may be really helpful; although I would not encourage any dog to tangle w/ a ground hog-still dangerous. They look so nice & furry when I see them in the country, but a bundle of trouble in my yard. I eat all my fresh berries and currants in my yard-all yummy! I could make currant deserts & jam now the bushes are mature this 3rd year-biggest crop of berries yet. I have strawberries in 3 beds…. just one fully ripe strawberry & many green strawberries. Your strawberries will ripen really soon now! Very exciting! How are your temps? Warming up?
Yesterday was 92F-started out in 70sF morning cool, but was pleasant warm all day. I had watered all the gardens & my new potted roses/plants in the morning first. I think they were ok. Today I need to water all gardens again & seeded grass-it’s 80F. AC may be needed. Is it summer, already? Roses should bloom a lot this week…. next days this week mid-upper 70sF up to 80F.. It’s hot last night & this morning. 💥☀️🥀🌺🌸🌷☀️💥

Kristine,
Lovely to see you! i know you have so much now w/ Azalea and 100+ roses, & family! And you paint your furniture sometimes! Beautiful porch door-adobe-I love it & matching rocking chair! Adorable! Very Niceeeeeee! I’m excited to see Miyabi first bloom photos?. First year
you will have a few blooms-2nd year she becomes vigorous-my Miyabi was thick caned 2nd year & now 3rd year-very nice thick caned & 4 1/2 ft tall-wide bush loaded w/ buds! You’ll love Miyabi!
Blooms today…..
Juliet opening!

A Parade of Reds:Munstead W. , grafted

Munsread W own-root
Darcy, 4 1/2 ft tall, vigorous. (Really much deeper red in life. He -was soectacular today!
Princess Kishi, 3 buds, baby 2nd year

My spring-summer was so cloudy rainy last season 2024 that some some baby new roses stayed small & barely made it through wonter covered w/ burlap. Juliet & Princess Kishi were the smalest - few inches canes left- after winter-didn’t think they’d make it. I dosed them just a few weeks w/ fish fertilizer & one helping iof Rose Tone. They have the darkest leaves & first bloomers-Wow! They both are a foot tall now-about 2 feet wide-doing excellent! .rosecanadian thanked KittyNY6 - 5 months ago

Original Author5 months agoKitty - Munstead W., what a trouper! My MIL is only 10 minutes away. That would be a better way, I guess. Just worried about her bp and O2 stats. Yes, I'm in love with my Easy on the Eyes. Still only one bloom open. I could take a few photos. :) :) Yes, our lilacs are maybe 10 years old. Maybe older, I'm not very good with time passage. I really hope my Mme Dubost and PM are not scrawny things. I paid a lot of money for 2 roses. Yes, smell the roses...to me, that's the best part. I'm annoyed with a few roses...Princess Charlene de Monaco had perfect leaves last year...now they have PM. Rosemantic Pink has had PM on its leaves since I got it. That one may be going bye-bye in the fall. Hasn't been a good bloomer for me, either. Rosemantic Fuchsia is much better for me. Yes, Teddy won't be fighting any groundhogs here. I'm excited for you about your berries/currants!! YUM!! Yes, it's going to be 26C/79F today...really hot. The plants are all going to love it. Oh, no, 92F is too hot, blech. Yes, I seeded patchy spots on the lawn the other day...now it's too hot for them to germinate well. But, we're keeping it well watered, that should help. Yes, our roses will be clapping their leaves in happiness. :) John Denver...Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy. Do you have another Sunshine song to counter? lol Your Juliet bush looks great...lots of buds for such a young plant. I love the heart of the bloom...my goodness!! Well done in cosseting your smaller roses...they look great!!
Kristine - my Sweet Delight is a one cane non-wonder. Your SD is a bloomfest!!! Well done!!! That's delightful (couldn't resist). Sooooo beautiful!!! I need to show your pic to my scrawny SD. I'm in love with your Adobe S!!!! Those colors!!! Mmmmm :) :) I love when you show your roses. :) :) Great color for your door and chair!! Wtg!- 5 months ago

And with your opinion (my daughter also agrees with you), I will stay here. Thank you. <3
