Replacing siding. Would like to update exterior.

The front siding on our home is in bad shape. We are definitely replacing it with James Hardie siding. We are open to removing the stone and perhaps mixing textures. Regular Hardie lap siding on the most of the house and perhaps shingles or board and batten on the triangle parts? We only need to replace the front. The sides and back are in good shape. I am open to going with arctic white or light mist and having the rest of the house painted, but my husband isn't as excited about that - although I could likely talk him into it. I'm also thinking we could add some shutters possibly. I'm really not good at this stuff so I am hoping you talented people can work your magic! Thanks in advance.

A complete different take on your house...

Iron Gray siding, and instead of shutters, make the window frames wider with all doors, windows and trim painted white.Keep the stone and stain it darker in the same tone as the siding, you'll still have the nice texture of stones. Then work on the landscaping including a path from your parking area to the front door.

Your triangles are called gables.

Remove the box at the top of the gable, but don't add anything back.

Consider primed Hardie if you are having the entire house painted.

Remove the rock and simplify the trim removing the vertical pieces and trim just the windows.

When you paint, do the corner boards in the body color, have a look, then decide if you want them in the trim color. Painting them the body color tends to unify the house and often makes it look wider as the eye sees it all together.

I'd not choose white or another really light color. The color you do choose should work with the roof.

And after you paint, consider updating the landscaping.

I wouldn't add gable trusses. Your roof line is too low for that.

You can spend all that money on Hardy Board or use a siding that is less expensive.

You appear to have some trees on the side of the house, that look very much like they are rubbing the roofing. That would be the first thing, I would take care of, before painting.

Remove the fancy gable things, no shutters on double windows prune back or remove those trees Take the fake stone off then a nice simple horizontal siding if you keep the windows or for a real change no grids in the windows and a dark vertical siding . No shakes IMO at all no matter what. The color is dependant on what style you want to go with. The biggest bang for your buck will be landscaping Make thta walkway twice as wide and you need to deside the style you want . You have IMO modern planters , but traditional windows so you need to narrow that first.

I see in your second pic you have flower boxes. As an avid gardener, I can tell you you are far, far better off with foundation plantings than flower boxes. Take the two white flower pots and use them on your porch, instead of a flower box there.

Your birch tree is lovely and 99% of the time, I'm against removing lovely trees, but I suspect it's just too close to the house and too big to move.
