Hood fan ducting is not centred

I bought a new high CFM hood fan for a new gas range and when installing I realized that the existing duct work is not centered. It is a 30 in fan obviously in a 30 in gap. When measuring the duct placement, there is 11 inches on one side of the duct and 9 inches on the other. To make things worse, on the 11 inch side, the existing duct is attached to a 2x4. Does this mean I need to cut into the 2x4? The venting goes straight up and out to the left as it is not on an exterior wall. Any other ideas before I either pay someone huge money or try to destroy it myself? Here's a pic.

What does the backside of your range hood (the side that will face and connect to that duct) look like? Picture?

I think this will end up a job for aluminum-backed duct tape and some tinkering. Worst case, you have a sheet metal shop make you something to connect the pieces.

Nope because the 3¹⁄₄" x 10" knockout on the back of the hood is going to be centered horizontally so it won't line up with the duct in the wall.

Yeah but I think there are a couple ways to deal with this.

The DIY way might be to block off the end of the duct, and make a shorter opening on the back of the hood, so it lines up. Not ideal for airflow but might work.

Thanks guys - had a buddy come over last night - said we could notch out the stud easily without affecting structure - so im just going to notch into the stud which turns out to be a 2x6 - and slide it over an inch
