Windows/Siding/Exterior Renovation Ideas

last month

I know this is a long post but I have a bunch of decisions to make on the exterior of our home. Any and all advice welcome - THANK YOU!!

We live in a 2 story brick colonial with siding on the back and sides of the home. This summer, we are replacing all of our windows/siding/door but I'm having trouble visualizing the front of the home. We are rebuilding the front portico to include a black metal roof and more substantial square columns. All of the trimwork will be white. The windows will be double hung with a traditional 6 lite white grid pattern. Here are my dilemmas:

-Siding: Our siding will be the Ascend composite siding from Alside and I was thinking of the color "Storm" which is a medium taupe-gray color. For the front gable, I was thinking of doing a shaker style siding. On the sides of the home, I would do the 7" horizontal plank in the same color. What colors do you suggest - also consider the brick and shutter color (below)?

- Shutters. We are keeping shutters on just the front of the house but not on the 3 other sides. I'm thinking a raised panel shutter but I'm stuck on a color. My instinct is to go with black but would a lighter color look good?

- Front Door/Sidelights: Ordering a Provia front door/sidelights. Thinking of doing a rich wood stain like an Oak, Cherry or Mahogany. Something like the doors below are striking to me. Any suggestions?

- Foyer Window Grid Pattern: We will be replacing our foyer window to be a single window rather than 3 double-hung windows. Should we include grids in the same style that currently match the 6 lite grid pattern of the other windows? Would it be visually interesting to do something different with the grid pattern such as grids only on the top 1/3?

- Foyer Window Trim: We will be removing the thick trim and sunburst from the exterior of our foyer window but after 25 years of direct sunlight, I believe there will be a distinct difference in the color of the brick. We are not changing the brick, or painting it. Any suggestions on a header and/or trim that would hide the color difference but still update the look? I'm thinking of an eyebrow pediment or some sort of crescent (not a sunburst). Should this be white? See below:

- Gables: I like the idea of gable pediments. I was thinking of something simple and not too victorian or ornate. Would a gable pediment look good on all 3 gables in the front or just the left and right gables only? I would remove the gable vent from the left.
