Bahama Shutters - yay or nay?

last month

I promised my husband I'd do a little research on this topic. He's been wanting them on our newly renovated house from the start and I've been resistant. But I'm thinking that maybe it might not be a bad idea.

Here's our house - there is currently no landscaping in front. The foundation plantings in this picture are AI generated.

I like how the shutters look on these houses, but I'm not sure if they'd work with ours.

Thoughts?

I think it can work aesthetically, if you want it to.

I wonder, though, what effect it will have on the interior of the house. Will it block out most of the sunlight?

I don't think Bahama shutters will work with your roof and windows. If they can't open enough to show your windows (as in the white "after" house) then they will just block the windows and look boarded up.

I'm not convinced they would fit on the "after" house, either, because the look is photoshopped, which makes it easy to ignore things like the top of windows and the roof.

    Thanks for the comments.

I know Bahama shutters would definitely block the sunlight in our living room, but I'm fine with that. Long story, but basically I've got curtains closed 100% of the time so I'm very accustomed to a lack of sunlight in that room. It's not where we spend time when we're looking for natural light. The shutters would actually be an improvement in lighting as they would allow some sunlight in, but at the same time provide privacy and keep us from being on a stage in front of that huge triple window.

The double window is in a guest bedroom with a window on another wall so I'm not concerned about that either.

Bahama shutters usually open to a maximum of 45° so they can open under my roof overhang. The picture of my house is a little deceiving - the shutters could actually be opened to a full 90° if that were a thing (which I'm pretty sure it's not).

I'll come back and post the finished project if we go ahead - just in case it could help someone else.
