What is best color flow for remaining areas?

last year

Work in progress, please excuse mess. Stuck on a few decisions nearing the end. Have to work with wallpaper. Changed below dado rail to cloud white. And dark grey in kitchen/dining. Want dark hallway at top. Same grey? Continue dado rail. Area by front door? All grey? White? Both?

We will be extending the hardwood as well. So that flooring will be gone. Wall by door will have hooks and ledge, etc. Worried if we do white, will be beat up in no time. We are considering the same wrought iron paint for bottom and white on top and rest of small wall areas by door. Or whole wall dark grey? Or even all of the walls by door. Will it look odd to have bottom of day rails painted opposite color when so close together?

This is a fantastic look you have created with an otherwise busy wallpaper.

This view of your doorway has the same problem of the busy wallpaper made worse by busy shapes and busy glass windows.

Paint the walls and doors all white, otherwise it is going to be very disjointed and crazy busy looking.

Get a washable white paint and you won't have a problem. I recently used Farrow and Ball dead flat. The stuff cleans like a miracle. So wipeable, no stains, no wipe marks. You can have it all!!!

IMO the front door and that wall paper do not work togther so change the front door to something much less Victorian Why the dark floors in the entry all the floors should be the same so the room next to the entry and the stairs drive the entry floor . Maybe a bit of tile reight at the door but a good mat out side ane inside should be all you need .A nice coat closet no coats on pegs the coats and shoes are not decor items ever

Put the stuff in the closet.

Thanks everyone! You have all captured why we have run into these dilemmas. Small house, limited storage. Closet is not sufficient for family of 5 that entertains often. We will not be putting shoes out in open. We also intended hooks to be for guests to hang purse, coats…
Not sure us. We are considering a suggestion to just get rid of close door and make it an alcove.
We are extending the hardwood. Will be same as original in LR and finished to match. The dark floor will be gone and we will decide what we want to do to finish/refinish the stairs.
Unfortunately we are stuck with the door and wallpaper for now. Definitely agree too many different things happening and appreciate the suggestions— last thing we want to do is make it worse but so desperate to try and improve what we can for the time being. Feel so silly that I didn’t even think of washable paint! Simple solution!

I think pretty much all latex paint is washable nowadays?

Even though I kinda like the pale gray around the door and at the top of the stairs that seems to go with the paper, all white with white front door would be gorgeous.

Wrought Iron sounda so dark for this house.
