Gas, ideally double oven

Can you define price range a bit more? Are you up for a $14,000 fridge or is that way beyond what you are looking for.

I would like to remain cost conscious but I have a little bit of flexibility. I had my eye on a 48inch Viking that now I have read not great reviews about the noise level of the oven.

Are you setting a resale value for your home?How much do you cook? What do you cook? Are you someone who needs a lot of control at low temperatures? Because the biggest difference for me between a KitchenAid gas range (that I had at my beach cottage) and a Wolf gas range is that on a Wolf you can melt chocolate right on a burner turned to low. That’s phenomenal control, and I didn’t need it. I also couldn’t afford it.

There are ranges that make sense for people who have gone to culinary school and cook at that level (Capital Culinarian open burner, for example), there are ranges for great home cooks who cook a lot and want to impress or set a resale value for a home (Wolf, Gaggenau), ranges for people who are really good home cooks on a budget (KitchenAid, GE Café), and ranges for people who store jeans in them. I chose the right range for me based on my cooking expertise, frequency, and what was right for the cottage.

I’d buy the same range today even though I’m a better cook in a much more valuable house, because it was a great appliance and I cook so much less. Just avoid the urge to buy the ”best” of everything you can afford, because the ”best” really depends on your needs, and needs change.

Not to throw a monkey wrench in your decision, but have you considered an induction range? Given the current concerns about health/environment with gas ranges, even if you're not worried it may hurt your resale value. Induction gives you the ability to control temperature exactly, even better than gas. And prices are coming down (but you may have to buy new cookware!) Just a thought.
