6 inches will work for the conditions. That corner floor lamp doesn't seem large enough in scale to complement the sectional successfully.

I’m looking at mockup of drapes. The 4-6” space question doesn’t matter to me as much as the visual of the drapes covering so much of the windows & the rods being so short. I’d want drapes fully stacked back & longer rods. My only point being that the visual isn’t selling me on using drapery panels which do seem the best suited for this situation of never closing over the windows.

Mel - good to know. You did say though that you’re a new designer so I took the customer view of the visual. I know myself well as a customer & success is all about setting proper expectations so, for me, the visuals are really important.

Does your client want to spend money on fabric that won't be seen?

I think only 4-6" is too tight.

I would do mock roman shades, outside mounted, and hang them as high as possible. Bring color/pattern up higher where it will actually be seen.
