You can still stay in the neutral family. I’d probably do a cream color. More of a white base than a brown base.

But I think for me, it’s the bed that’s a bit too dark. Are you open to replacing that?
I’d rather even change the bed before changing the carpet.

You have several touches of cream. As littlemissdena suggests, you could use that. Have the curtains cleaned if they haven't been cleaned recently, then match their cream color. Alternatively, match the cream in the blue print pillows or the medallions on the rug.

An alternative completely different look would be a light blue. Prop up the blue pillow on the bed in the front or tape the blue pillowcase to the wall to see if you like that idea.

Escaped the beiges. Try this wall color. Get a sample and see what you think. Very soothing color for a pretty bedroom.

Is there a ceiling light? Better lighting would be really positive.

Here’s a quick mock up with light blue walls, larger nightstand lamps, sone art over headboard and a throw on bed or bed skirt to break up coverlet somewhat. Move rug closer to foot of bed too.

The truck is more “layers” and textures. Shop in your house for a taller chest or cabinet for right side of bed to act as taller night stand.

I would opt for a light blocking roman shade for the window, to open up that space. A cream paint with pink instead of yellow undertones. Two nightstands (they just need to coordinate, not match, with larger lamps on each. As previously shown art above the bed will help. Not crazy about the blue patterned throw pillows.

Consider larger chests for either side of the bed.

Have you considered a lighter colored headboard?
You can drape/pin an attractive blanket,quilt,or other nice material over the current one,see if it lifts up the space.
Worth trying out before expending funds on room paint.
Yes,the oriental rug needs to be closer to the foot of the bed.

If you plan to change the bed/headboard, do that then we can revaluate paint/wall color. Decide on large items first, then lamps, then bedding and last paint color. You will save money and work. 😂

I usually start my redo of a bedroom with choosing new bedding then all the rest .. You already have carpet why the area rug that right now goes with nothing in the space . I need a bit more info to help really .Seeing the whole room would be a great place to start, post the new pics in a comment.

Move the rug more under the bed and replace the brown fabric headboard with a lighter colour fabric or an upholstered platform bed.
