Double Wall Ovens- Is anyone unhappy with them?

last month

Trying to decide whether I should get a double wall oven or single wall oven microwave on top or a 30 " stand alone range.

I have heard several people say that the top oven on a wall oven is difficult to use as you can burn your wrist/arms when taking hot and heavy things out. I appreciate your feedback and thoughts. Many thanks.

Double ovens all the way. There are other options for the microwave.

We remodeled the kitchen in a previous home and put double wall ovens in. I loved that arrangement and never had any kind of problems with it. My current home came with a built in wall stack that includes microwave on top, oven in the middle and warming drawer on the bottom. I like that too as I often used my second oven to keep things warm so the warming drawer meets nearly all my needs. In my opinion the stack is installed a bit low because the warming drawer is right down at the floor. It could have had a drawer at the bottom with the warming drawer above that and the height of everything above would still have been fine.

I would never choose to have an OTR microwave rather than a decent exhaust fan over the cooktop. I don't mind that location for a microwave but the lack of a good fan bothers me.

I have double wall ovens and love them. But, now that we are empty-nesters, we feel like we could go with an oven-toaster oven combo. We recently got a countertop toaster oven (breville) and find that we use it a lot.

I use a Ninjo 200 series airfryer/toaster oven for every oven procedure. Very fast. 11" of interior height makes two rack operations possible. 7.5" for others. Never use the range oven.

We have double wall ovens. The tall people in my family use the top one, but it's too high for me to use comfortably (I'm 4'11"), so I exclusively use the lower one except when doing holiday cooking. If I could do my own kitchen, I'd have 2 wall ovens, but the top one would be a French door style. I also second the Ninja toaster oven/air fryer recommendation. I can fit a 9x9 pan in ours, and it's replaced a lot of oven use -- even for our family with 2 teenagers still at home.

I'm much happier with a single wide, deep, and tall oven. I use my sister's double wall oven when visiting and always have an issue fitting everything in. Be sure you can fit the largest pan you want to use with some room for circulation of the air. Admittedly I regularly do things like baking eight loaves of bread at a time, so may be an outlier.

My lower oven gets very infrequent use due to the dogs and the reaching down isn't something my back appreciates. I appreciate the upper oven and also try to slide the racks out to remove items. Having heavy duty racks that do that is imperative. Older ovens didn't have those features.

Moving from a single oven to a double improved my kitchen workflow. A modern oven with today's bells & whistles adds cooking versatility, and TWO modern ovens adds flexibility.

I replaced an oven/mw combo unit with a GE Profile Twin Flex & had a cubby built for a plug in microwave. I LOVE the Twin Flex. It's two small ovens in the place of a single. Nicest baker I've ever owned, and it does everything else well too. Well, the broiler is weak for meats, but air fry works really well for crisping/charring on the outside while keeping the interior tender. The broiler melts cheese & browns bread crumbs just fine. I'm surprised at how much food I can cook in a Twin Flex. We've entertained for 25 people & routinely cook for 12. So it's capacious when you need to cook big, and right sized for when you need to cook small. I want another one in our new house.

That is very interesting. I have never seen that type of oven. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy your new oven.

We’e had double ovens in our past two kitchen - the first was a speed oven/convection oven combo (Bosch), current is a steam oven/convection oven combo (Thermador). I find that in our current kitchen, I use the smaller, steam oven more often than the full sized one. The larger one does get slightly hotter.

You can get side swing doors on the top oven or a french door, otherwise it is hard to get food in and out if you are short.

May I ask you ......You are finding getting items out of the top oven difficult due to the height of the top oven and also the door opening?

I have a double wall oven and love it! The top is a French door oven and the bottom is a microwave/convection oven. No regrets!
