what makes you CRINGE?!

Lovers of good design, make us laugh and tell us what makes you cringe first or most when you see a pic of someone’s home? The wit and charm on this site keeps me oh so entertained!

I just went five full pages in on "Design Dilemma......most recent of anything new?Two full days ago!!! If I go under "unanswered"? The stuff goes back to '24

Are we to believe that NOBODY has posted a question from anywhere Planet Earth in two days?

I'm going to post a thread......

" TRYING to ask a question? Don't see your question?

    Let's see if it posts!

Same re the app- no updates for days. Weird. Re la la girl. The thrift shop near me in Maine gives away books for free which is why I can ‘shop’ by color. My husband noticed I brought home a southern apologist book by accident. It didn’t get displayed.

I just posted a new one to see if it would post. It did!

    So weird......

Apparently everyone is on vacation or just not working on ANYTHING: )?

Anyone see this in their "new" notifications?

    Seriously?? WHAT THE HECK!

I'm on Mac, Firefox. and it goes right TO the link!!

No site ever had more problems integrating platforms. It is just unreal.

When I access the link from Safari on my I phone, Same thing- goes directly to my link!

All of that still does not explain the lack of NEW posts other than everyone uses the phone to post and NOTHING on the app is working?

I have NO apps on my phone but the ones it came with lol

I left home when I no longer needed parenting. At 63 I don't need someone telling me what I should or should not discuss with people I consider peers and/or social media friends.

I made the decision to participate in this conversation based on an evaluation of my personal values. I saw absolutely nothing wrong with having an open dialog about a shared activity. In my mind this is a healthy way to express our likes and dislikes and a good way to get to know each other better. This is important in a society where so many of our relationships are built over social media and fewer personal connections.

I found someone who simply pronounced their moral superiority and condemnation of my decision making process to be judgmental, self-righteous, negative and unproductive and I disagree with the assessment that this was courageous or admirable behavior.

Thank you Jennifer for your post. I was personally offended by the remarks of the two posters who object to this thread’s topic & content. I am puzzled about their need to rebuke everyone who did stay on topic with their posts.

You'd think that if a person is offended or not interested in a discussion that they would just stop reading it! I know I would, instead of lecturing to those who find it interesting.

My mother had a friend who hid his money paper money in the pages of his books the books didn’t have green covers so no hint if the treasure inside. -). We examined all the books carefully so as to not miss any moolah hidden within.

    But on the cringe topic?

Sorry, but once in a while someone does need truth.

I said in here on first meet: "You're not old enough ( never will be ) and you seem far too cool for this,or am I nuts?, no MATTER how much you love tradition.!"

What happened? A better, truer......version of the inhabitant. :

jan, the same thing happens when threads just disappear. The OP can see their own thread and keeps commenting, but no one else can see it.

There is a glitch and no one can post new Threads on any of the forums. Admin is off for the weekend, likely. Started yesterday. Likely fixed tomorrow.

    silktassle, that drives me nuts.

(almost as nuts as tassle for tassel /jk)

My parents had the entire set of National Geographics from the very first one from 1890-something up through when they moved from their house in Chapel Hill into an apartment. The house I grew up in in Maryland had shelves in my mom’s office that were built to fit them (and Marimekko yellow floral curtains and leather Eames lounger to match!). They were, um, quite a decor statement.

EDIT -someone made a comment about a section of comments being deleted - I don't remember who made the post.

A big chunk of original comments has been removed???? I found this thread and started reading through it a few hours ago - had to take a little break and just came back to finish. Was the "chunk" before or after the section re: arranging books by color? I'm just wondering if I missed out on a section that was really good . . .

There are quite a few things that make me cringe - but I don't want to repeat anything that's already been mentioned. I will add that my skin crawls when people use the word "prolly" - truly makes me cringe!

I have a little gift shop near me that started carrying an assortment of amusing tea towels - I have purchased a few because they were just perfect for one of my sisters/daughters/friends.

    P.S. Thanks for the entertainment!

I can see/read the entire thread on my iPad (which is my go-to for Houzz reading). The links all, work and Jan’s comments are all there. I don’t know why I can see them and the people who wrote their comments can’t. The “new-and-improved-updated” Houzz app, isn’t as good as it old one. But I can see all the comments.

This thread is a hoot! Love everyone’s openness about what makes them cringe. No one should take offense, for cryin’ out loud!

redryder, just to clarify, you can see the new thread jan started 11 hours ago "trying to ask a question"?

Also, I've been following along and am not noticing a big chunk of comments removed so not sure what that is referring to.

    @dani_m08 and all

I don't see that any comments were removed?

Here's a shot from top of my mac page.....

Usually always says see more. read more, and on a long thread may have to click that twice.

I DO notice on the phone with safari, I never see that option and explains why so many clueless comments someday? Like folks jumped in late?

At any rate, the lack of ANY new posts, questions. remains.......I mean zero!!

If I click the link I added here in the thread? My new post comes up. If I just scroll to find new posts AND mine? It is NOT there.

Which just means any new posts are not posting at all!

I posted this above 11 hours ago. Do you not read other's comments?

I had a loss of seeing notifications for a bit. Lots of reading to catch up on this thread!

For those who are offended - we are not making fun of others; we're simply stating what makes us crazy in the design world!

Oh National Geographic.... I have fond memories. I was working in the library as a teen 45 years ago and they received a donation of decades of great condition National Geographics. Yes you guesses it, they were not in ANY sort of order. That was my job to sort, inspect and card catalog each one. What an education! LOL

    Still loving this thread!!

Well, I now feel like a CRAZY person! I know that someone posted a comment about a section of comments being removed. However, I can't find that comment anymore - and I don't remember who made the post.

Hopefully, the person deleted his/her comment vs. me losing my mind . . .

  • yesterday

dani, no worries on your sanity. I don't see that comment anymore either. I'd guess it was deleted.

Well, chiding certainly doesn't seem to get people what they want. Asking nicely might be a better tactic.

Dani, while did not make the comment about deleted posts, the fact is there is a portion at the beginning that I can no longer see. Even hitting the "see older posts" button several times, there are still missing early posts (mine being one of them). Nor can I see Jan's new thread posted yesterday.

  • yesterday

It's Monday EOD and still can't see any new threads, so can't blame it on the weekend.

  • yesterday

    It’s fixed now.

  • yesterday

But a chunk of the earliest posts are still missing from this thread.

  • yesterday
    last modified: yesterday

Some of them are not visible until you click on the line that says "SEE 197 MORE COMMENTS" at the top of the page, right under FEATURED ANSWER, then COMMENTS(247). All of the comments are here. When a thread gets too long they hide some and you have to click on the link to expand the thread so they all show,

eta - i guess some are still missing but hopefully because the poster deleted them. It's hard to keep track when some posters post 3 or 4 comments in a row instead of one post with their comments,. It just grows the thread to an unmanageable size. Makes me wonder if she's paid per post or just likes to see her name as a top poster. I guess THAT makes me cringe.
