Beach house makeover

It is time to paint our beach house. We bought it with this peachy color and tan trim and had a tan roof. We just put a new roof on, in a regular metal gray. New windows are going in and the trim will be white. I had always thought I would paint the house white …and then at least four homes went white over the last 2 years near us and it just is starting to look all the same and not ”beachy”. There are a bunch of different blues and greens with a few yellows. Only one coral and further up the road so I am thinking possibly coral without looking too orange or too pink. This is proving a hard decision. So I am hoping someone with a good eye for decorating can help pull this together because we have to choose a paint color in less than 2 weeks.

The name of our beach house is Melonheads. My name is melissa and everyone calls me Mel. My husband is Eddie and he is referred to as Ed. One time a friend was telling someone that they were headed to Mel and Eds and the person looked at them and said who is Melonhead? They laughed and shared the story and it kinda became a joke that we were melonheads. When we bought our beach house 6 years ago….there was no discussion about what it would be called. We think a Melon color would be fun.

I also would paint the body a light beachy color, and find a pretty melon color for the door. SW rain would be a good choice, like mentioned above. A very light bluish green would be beachy too, and the melon would still be my choice for the door

Peacy and coral pretty much the same tones I would do the white if that was always the 1 st choice or a nice green but white is classic and allows lots of color for flowers, furniture etc .

I would work to create a weathere wood appearance for t he house instead of a 'color' Lean it toward gray or greige as you see below.

What paint color families are inside, as it’s important to choose what you love so you like long term; it’s a big commitment. Don’t choose based on your nick name (add a custom welcome sign and a melon front door), or eliminate colors because there are a few around (look for a slightly different undertone).

There are givens to consider - the roof and a lot of decking, so I’d choose a color that didn’t have a big contrast. Do you want a natural feel to be in harmony with the sand, sky, and ocean? Recommend buying lots of paint pots and test in wide strips.

Your current color leans towards browner tones. I'd stick with coral/melon, but with white windows and trim and a gray roof, I'd pick a clearer melon color. I like the one in Lisedv's second picture. I kind of like SW Jovial. The thing to remember is that all paint colors are pigments added to white. If you like a color but it's too intense, you can dilute it with white. Our house paint (actually a stain) was 75% of the color, which technically gets you a custom color. So get some swatches, then some sample paints.

1. The house is Sherwin Williams Halycon Green SW 6213; The door is Casa Bonita 50 yr 30/417. Trim is Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace OC 65. The deck is a stain; color is Blue Shadow.

There are many shades of coral that would work for a front door - and would work with above house or the next one below:

Love the house. Secretly...I like the peach as it stands out as something different. But the blues, silvers, and grays seem to be more contemporary now.

Soft green with the coral door. The sun and wind really do a number on beach houses, and the “perfect” coral color can change to something too orange to too pink over the following years. Greens usually age a bit better.
