Leave the brick as is. I'd change up the built in shelves before I would alter the fireplace look.

thnx all-still deciding. the photo shopped whitewashed looks good-sort of farmhouse modern but is that style that will look dated? and then theres the issue of tv over the fireplace,,,thoughts?

If you're going to paint the brick white, everything in the room must work with that decision.

I would not change the fireplace (paint or limewash); but look at the other elements in the space to soften the look (rug, chairs, pillows). If the TV can't be placed at another location and must be above the fireplace, then you may need to consider how that would be done to minimize the ruined bricks to mount the TV.

Given the room’s coziness and style, I’d leave the brick as is. Suggest some changes though, if interested.

Add a mantle and a basket/blanket, which will add to the fireplsce’s overall look.

Rethink how shelves are accessorized, as this will have a really big impact on room (more than any changes to the stone).

A larger coffee table would be more practical (pull a bit closer to couch and remove the small bench and chair). When accessorized it will ground the seating area and create more interest.

What is your primary reason for considering painting it? Is it because you think the room is too dark? You just want a change?

I really don't like the tiny slivers of green wall color between the windows and behind these bookcases, but I assume it is a wall color that covers large walls in other areas of an open concept room. Correct?

From the little info in these pics, the fireplace goes with your furnishings and I'd keep it as is.

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to update the fireplace then would agree that painting it would be the thing to do.
