how to mount outdoor TV

last year

Hi! Wanting to place a tv in our new screened porch. Not sure the best place to hang it as our ceilings are vaulted and we only really have one good option in my option which is to the left of the door(Near top outlet)

Would love recommendations on how you hung your TVs with this setup.

With the same type mount you use inside . You do however need an outdoor TV in screened in porch since the humidity is always an issue

@patricia - I didn’t know if it was ok to screw into the vinyl siding, or if I should hand it from the ceiling towards that wall

I agree, I would just put it on a stand before drilling into the siding.

Look for an Easel TV stand. Some come with wheels.

We have an indoor TV outside in MN. We leave it unplugged and cover it (even over winter) and it is just fine. It doesn't have the sunbrite screen so it can be difficult to see in the middle of the day, but we also don't use it that often. We figured we could buy about 6 regular TVs for the price of an outdoor TV so we took our chances.

We mounted ours directly to the house on an articulating mount so we could adjust it as needed.

ETA: all of our neighbors with TVs outside are also using a regular TV, not an outdoor specific TV. No one has had any issues. Granted, all of them are covered in some way so they're not totally exposed to the elements, but everything gets cold. YMMV.

We had our tv on the wall outside, but it was very limiting. My husband found this stand and now it goes where we need it. We use it by the pool, fire pit, etc. really changes things up. Also helps to be able to move it out of the glare of the sun.

Also, we just have a regular tv instead of an “outdoor” tv. We cover it with an outdoor rated tv cover when not in use, and store it in our covered patio. Been 4 years and no issues. For us, it was less expensive to risk a regular tv than the very pricey outdoor rated television.

I like the idea of the easel in your case never really thought of that . I have a TV in a cabinet that is closed after TV watching but it still comes inside for the winter . It is a regular TV

Yeah, also glad this came up because we didn't design our large covered patio to have a TV, as it is too hot/humid in FL most of the time to sit outside watching TV, but an easel with wheels would work great if we ever had a need to add a TV outside or stage it that way when we sell some day.

If you haven't resolved your issue, let me know. We have an outdoor tv that my SO installed about 3-4 years ago. It is mounted in a corner with a swivel mount + we have an outdoor cover for it. I can find out details if you still need any assistance.

We don't have a screened in porch - we have a covered patio attached to our house with a vaulted cedar ceiling + large cedar posts.
