Help With Awkward Layout Kitchen on a Budget

We just purchased a new home and I am having massive trouble with the kitchen. The biggest problem is the built in oven area (oven needs to be replaced). I was just going to paint the cabinets out white (cabinets are in great shape) but the ledge on top of the oven is awful. If we bring out the upper cabinets to match then it will cover the bulkhead which we cannot remove as it has HVAC in there! Honestly not sure how this would look regardless. My thoughts would be to remove the built in oven area extend the uppers and make new lowers and remove the cooktop cabinet and put in a free standing range but that will be a fortune as now I will need new cabinets and a new countertop. I will be removing the island and putting in a square or rectangular island regardless as the cabinets in there are very awkward and pretty useless. I would put all drawers in the island instead. We are looking for any advice that is budget friendly as the home needs so much work. Oh also we will be refinishing the hardwood to a light driftwood color. Any input would be appreciated!!

To be any help we need measured drawings since these realtor photos have wicked distortion. What is your budget? Even ikea will be 40k for a kitchen that size including the counters.

That's going to be a very large expense to do anything with. Just painting that amount of cabinets is going to be 15-20K from an actual cabinet finisher who uses industrial wood coatings.

I was more hoping for layout ideas with the built in oven area if anyone has any ideas? We understand it will be an expensive kitchen reno :)

You may be able to remove the base cabinet under your cooktop, install a range and put that base cabinet where your wall ovens were. You wouldn't need to buy a cabinet but would have to do something about the countertop.

Since you know it will be expensive to re-do the kitchen, I would recommend waiting 6 months to see what else you don't like about the kitchen. Then you can make a plan to fix everything, rather than finding out that you need to make additional changes.

There's nothing wrong with doing a kitchen renovation in stages as long as you have a plan from the beginning.

As suggested above by Hallett & Co, drawing a quick sketch (to scale - use graph paper or a ruler 1/4" = 1') that includes written dimensions for all walls/windows/doors/doorways/etc. is needed in order for anyone to be able to suggest changes (or help you plan how to update the kitchen in stages). The photos really distort the kitchen making it difficult to determine the actual size + all of the angles.

Take a photo of your sketch and post it in a comment (or your original post if possible - I don't know if you will be able to do that).

the island may need to be changed but the wall storage area must hold a ton unless those are faux doors. I think I would 1. switch the ovens and fridge positions...2. get new oven installed .3. live w the island for a while. 4. forget about painting the cabs they look okay .

when the time comes to deal w the island maybe that big wall of doors could be altered to get a coffee bar/ or something less massive in scale ...break it up w counter mixed w the door storage.
