...specifically on my pear trees. I have had 3 excellent years without any fire blight on my trees but I'm going to try and nip it in the bud this year. I see a pattern where if there is no freezing temps during the blooming period all will go well for that year. But, if like this year where we got hit with a dip to 30F just after peak bloom those late blooms will die and it seems like they become a perfect petri dish for the fireblight bug.

Once the freeze killed blooms turn black then it spreads down the bud cluster into the stem, then to the branch, limb, trunk. For the past 3 days I have meticulously removed all of the suspect/black blooms, clusters, and deformed young pears (that I could reach). A lot of up & down the ladder but hope it works to "stem" the infection from spreading. We'll see....several years ago I lost 2 nice Asian Pear trees to FBlight (it spreads fast). I now have 5 asst pear trees (no Asian), ages from 2-18 years.
