Mothers Day weekend Rose Show

I know most of the folks on this form have no use for rose shows, but I like the gatherings of rose folks and the chance to show the public just how easy it is to grow good roses. That being said, I attended the Atlanta Rose Society Rose Show this past weekend at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. A very good turnout of exhibitors (lots of young folks). I entered mostly shrubs and got blue ribbons on all of my shrub entries and won 90% of the shrub class's. Here are a few picks I took at the show.

Best Old Garden Rose (Dowger Queen)---Marchesa Boccella

Something you need to know about me and rose shows. I'm not a trophy hunter. That's not me. I don't take any awards or prizes. I collect the certificates. My main purpose is to show the general public how easy it is to grow good roses. I answer and teach all afternoon. My "good times" are in the prep room early in the morning, talking and sharing with other exhibitors.

Oh, these are superb roses, Ken! wish I could have come this year too!

Your ROF is gorgeous and it makes me happy I am growing it too. It is a very sturdy one.

I also have MW, yours is beautiful as ever.

As for your Hot Princess - well, the name says it all. She's a 10 and she knows it too. Don't they always? lol

Congratulations!!! You did really well!! I agree with jjk...Marchessa Boccella (both sets) stole my heart...should be Queen of the Show. Wow!! I also especially love your Ring of Fire.

@Ken Wilkinson, I’m curious if at this year’s show, you feel that there is more interest to grow roses among the general public? Was there more awareness of flower forms or classes of roses other than hybrid teas?

Fantastic roses! We've done our local show a couple of times and it is fun. I don't take the rules too seriously. I like to see what people are growing locally and the folks are always friendly.

Great job, Ken - they all look great! What category had the greatest number of submissions or do you feel they were pretty equally represented?

jjkOC & Dave---The shrub class and the HT's were almost equally represented. Shrubs grow like weeds in our climate. People really enjoy growing a lot of different shrubs. More and more people are growing David Austin roses. Probably 90% of the questions from the general public were about DA roses
