Any experience with New Jersey Tea in part shade?

I have a spot in my garden that I need to find plants to fill. Due to a wooden fence and a tall tree, it only has sun for a few hours each day, mostly in the mid to later morning. There is a quite happy hydrangea growing there and an alba rose (once blooming and somewhat shade tolerant), as well as some cranesbill geraniums. I recently planted a Hibiscus syriacus 'Diana' for something tall, also because the white flowers should brighten that corner. Hibiscuses like full sun but from what I have read, ought to do well in part shade, just flower a bit less. If I am wrong I need to move this plant because it is a favorite of mine. I have a couple plants of Ceanothus americana (New Jersey Tea) that could fill the spot nicely, but only if they can tolerate shade for about half the day. I understand they tend to be wood-field edge plants.
