Hello Bellegallica9a, I know this post is about Gruss An Teplitz, but I wanted to touch base with you about Rose Edouard. I got one from Roses Unlimited like you had, and like yours, all mine has done so far is produce tons of foliage!

Hi Sarina! Thank you for the feedback on Gruss. It does smell really nice. I never did get a bloom from that "not Rose Edouard." In the end I figured it was some kind of once bloomer that wouldn't flower here because it was too warm. The foliage was nice, though.

I saw your post at the pink Rose Edouard thread. I also had the Greenmantle one, and I agree that it was the real deal, or at least very close to it. It really did look and smell like something that could be a cross between Old Blush and Autumn Damask. I'm glad you have it, too!

Hi Bellegallica9a--- I love your name! Are you partial to gallicas? Like I am to Rose Edouard---- to the point of obsession according to my daughter! She is right perhaps! I guess my pursuit of the real Edouard has in part to do with nostalgia--- my childhood memories of it growing in our garden in India. And in part to it being the first Bourbon rose. I want to "save" it somehow-- want to encourage others to grow it--- and perhaps because of that I have ended up buying several imposter Rose Edouards from several nurseries in the US! I am now convinced that the only "real" one is the one from Greenmantle. And now with my discovery of the panneer rose-- which is just like how the Rose Edouard was in India-- I feel I have found its close cousin!
