wiring for ceiling fan

Hello,

i was thinking of adding a ceiling fan in my living room. Theres no wire, no box i would need to get power and add the mount/box.

What is the best way to wire it up without ripping up the drywall. I currently have a canister light in my ceiling near the wall. I was thinking of getting power from it. Whats the best option to get this done. Is it okay to split the wire from the canister?

I'm a dummy so I'm not sure what a canister light is but does this canister light have power to it 24/7 ? If so I don't know any reason you can't tap into that power. If the new fan will be remotely controlled, for ease of installation without cutting drywall use surface mounted channel from canister to surface mounted "pancake" box for fan. As you are probably aware, fan box MUST have screws going through drywall and hitting wood.

The light is switched, so power you take off it for the ceiling fan will be switched too. But that’s better than nothing. Get a ceiling fan or fan/light combo) with a wireless control for fan on/off/speed and light on/off. If the joists run the right way, might not be that hard to fish cable through the ceiling. If they don’t, its harder - might have to cut and replace some drywall.

Call in an electrician who will cut a drywall channel in the ceiling and put in the proper support base for the fan then repair the drywall ceiling.

Get an electrician and see what is possible we have no idea what you are dealing with . I do not like fans usually but sometimes thay are a must but they do need good support.
