I hate cleaning large expanses of stainless, so I went with paneled DW and paneled fridge in my previous and current kitchens.

Paneled fridge and dishwasher. Easier to keep clean, and a much more finished look.

Panels are not standard. If you make a panel for an appliance and then switch out the appliance, the old panel may not fit the new one. Also, panels add complexity and cost to your new kitchen. Even appliance pulls are expensive and you can't use cabinet pulls. Stainless is easy.

I hate the look of kitchens with paneled fridges and dishwashers. I personally like white appliances, but a lot of the appliance models I like don't come in white, so I'd go for stainless steel. I also agree with weccruise in that panels make it difficult to change the appliance should something happen to it, or it no longer fits your needs.

‘Most’ dishwasher panels are standard now/ they are a flat panel equivalent to 24x30. If ikea can sell dishwasher with panels they are pretty standardized. Fridges are not. (But apparently ikea has a panel fridge now!)

I chose a paneled dishwasher and a SS refrigerator.

I fail to understand how a paneled dishwasher or fridge can be easier to clean. I don't know about you, but when I'm cleaning up the kitchen my hands are wet, drips occur down the front of the dishwasher, sometimes along with the errant food splash. The fridge gets kinda grimey around the handles, too -- more from DH's use than mine, but still. You have to wipe up the mess regardless.
