kitchen layout ideas

last month

We are working on our kitchen plan and looking for ideas. Our kitchen/dining area are on the smaller side. The awkward part I am struggling with is the oven not having a landing space on the left. It has always been like this but I can’t think of any other places to put it. I feel in the island is not big enough and I have young kids so feels safer against a wall. Open to ideas and thoughts!!

Props for the scaled layout. I'd use a ruler for lines. Add a larger layout of the full floorplan so we can go for better suggestions. What's beyond the island, info on the layout around the closet/pantry and opening next to the range. An induction range will give you a cleaner, safer more powerful cooktop.

Looking at what you've shown, the work zones around the range would benefit from improvement. The sink at 33 inches interior could be dropped to the 21 x 18 of a 24" undermount and placed in a 24" sinkbase, island seating gets 24" width instead of 20" shown. Chair plus stools shown at 8.5" plus a walkway do not fit between the dining table and island and frig.

Go to an appliance store and ask for cardboard from boxes. Use that to mock=up a full-size layout in your garage or basement.

start by switch to a peninsula coming off where it says closet/pantry. you can get 24 in deep drawers..a curved overhang and one end stool further away from the table area . its hard to read the details of window/wall on the long wall....need ability to read to know what adjustments can be made.

curved overhang for longer peninsula...much more accommodating....either w or without sink.

Show adjacent spaces. Where does the doorway to the left of the stove go? If possible, move it to the left to get more space around the stove. Relocate the closet?

I am not going to count squares to figure out the measurements and the drawing needs to be done with a ruler and all measurements clearly marked We need to know all the space around this space and maybe the answer is no island but I need measurements and for sure what is the space to the left of the island is there a wall there or open to some other space

I apologize, I am new to this. To answer a few questions

    • the door beside the range leads to stairs to the right and then a back door.
    • The area beyond the island is living room. There is currently a wall separating them that we would like to open up.
    • my first drawing was a bit off in measurements I think.
    • we already have a peninsula currently where the fridge is, but would like to remove that as I was hoping it would make the dining room bigger

Working with a fairly small space, I know and that’s why I’m hoping for suggestions.

It really helps to see a computer generated plan for both the current and potential plan. Showing the rooms around the kitchen (not just notes pointing to them) helps too as the kitchen needs to relate to the space around it, and sometimes there is a possibility to take space from another room to help the kitchen.

We're hoping you can continue with the effort you've begun with the kitchen layout and expand the layout to include the rooms around the kitchen. The whole floorplan will help people come up with suggestions.

You are doing great listening to everyone’s helpful suggestions!

The accurate measurements that you added on your graph paper drawing helps so much.

However, could you please do a new graph paper drawing with similar measurements labeled of the current kitchen layout (with peninsula)?

Also a zoomed out drawing showing the surrounding rooms on that floor (no need for perfect measuresurement of surrounding rooms) helps. Seeing the entire floor plan on the same level as the kitchen helps us understand the flow and function of the home. If you have the architect’s original floor plan from whatever decade, that helps too.

Also, if you are okay with it, posting actual photos of the existing kitchen and the surrounding rooms helps us visualize everything.
