The nice thing about having a brick house, is that you can do any color you want for the front door, shutters and garage doors. Changing the garage doors to match the white trim might brighten things up and still go with whatever color you choose for the shutters and front door. Crisp black shutters and front door still look very classic on a brick house, with white trim. Shine up the hardware and light fixtures, and get a front door knocker that stand out a bit or a beautiful front door wreath.

Great points, heidilnamin! We are already on the lookout for a 'unique' front door knocker and we have already purchased new light fixtures (but just haven't put them up yet...they are black). A new, nicer mailbox wouldn't hurt, no doubt. Crisp black shutters, perhaps with a bit of a glossy sheen (?) seem like a good idea.

I just repainted my shutters and front door. I went with black shutters and red front door and I love it. Here is before and after pics

I like the result! Perhaps I can convince my spouse to go with the red door and the grey, or black, for the shutters/garage doors.
