LVP Flooring suggestions??

last month

My Fiance and I are building a house and due to our golden retriever, we are dead set on LVP as opposed to hardwood for wear and tear. We’re leaning towards going with Windlass collection LVP flooring but there isn’t a lot of information out there about it on the web! I’d love to see photos and hear some feedback from those of you who HAVE used it. It’s so hard to choose a color from a small sample/ even a sample board and try to envision it covering an entire space. Any help would be appreciated! Our goal is to have it look as realistic as possible- we don’t like gray or weathered looks, we prefer as close to oak/ real wood as possible with minimal color variation. We don’t want orange, yellow or red tones, we want very neutral undertones and a sort of lighter brown color to go with the rest of the house. Think the new white oak fad but a bit darker brown than that? We don’t like busy because we want the focus to be on our cathedral ceiling with real tongue and groove knotty pine and our beautiful windows! :) we have a lot of real wood incorporated into the homes interior and overall aesthetic because it’s a timber build. Please let me know if there’s any brand in particular that looks the most like real wood for us to check out! Windlass was just a suggestion made by a local building supplier but I’m not in love with any of the colors! I fell in love with one from the tile shop (their own brand) but unfortunately the quality is just not there. I wish I could find a better quality version of this exact color shown in my photo

Have you walked on an installed LVP floor? That was the deciding factor for us, when my DH hated the sound when walking across the LVP installed at the flooring showroom.

With all the real wood in your house, the LVP is going to look like a poor copy of wood.

We have 3 dogs, 2 of which are in the 60 lb range and very active.

We used DuChateau engineered wood floors, Riverstone Collection, color Sava. We have been in the house 3 years and we're very happy with the way the floors are performing. Mine have a hard-wax oil finish.

@Chispa , thank you so much for your input and advice!!! Your floors are beautiful :) I was worried about that also- like it would look silly against all the real wood we’re going to have in our home. How have your floors held up to scratches from your larger dogs nails!? My parents have very nice real hardwood floors and just from my dog visiting there, I can see all the scratches he’s caused and they’re very apparent/ bothersome to me and my fiancé. Does the wax help prevent the scratches?? I’ve walked on LVP before at friends houses and I hate it haha- it feels like plastic with a grainy film on it beneath your feet, but if it holds up to my dogs nail scratches I could get past that aspect- I think! lol . I just want to do what’s best for longevity and durability in our new home but now I’m second guessing everything!!

The lab does not have the run of the house? I also would do wood look anywhere near real wood.

Another vote for a high quality engineered wood. If you pick one with some slight distressing it will also help disguise what life with dogs can do. Vinyl does scratch and unlike wood it cannot be repaired (well a board can be popped out but not a good long term strategy).

IMO in a timber framed hone fake wood is not a choice . Have you looked at vinyl tile that mimics stone it will stand up to the dog but not try to compete with the real wood . I have 3 huge dogs and a laminate from Germany that looks like slat in the main floor and a wood look LVP in th walkout where the dogs have a access doggie door to a huge dog run both floors are 18 yrs old and still look awesome

LVP has it’s place. I love it in my Florida home. More and more high end homes here in Florida are using LVP.

But……hardwood is most always preferred. This past year we had to refinish our HW in our NY home. We did a mat finish and scratches are not as noticeable.

I wouldn’t mix hardwood and LVP.

That said there are so many choices for LVP and companies that do it. We have Coretec but I’m hearing laminate flooring is becoming more Ng popular with their wood look choices.

Before making your final decision, you may want to take a look at this post on the cleaning forum. https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/5989279/luxury-vinyl-plank-floors-impossible-to-keep-clean-any-advice#n=51

Catky, i didn’t read all of your link. I can only vouch that my Coretec Hays Oak looks exactly the same as it did when installed in 2019.

I use Coretec Encore cleaner. And to be honest, I vacuum a few times a week, but I don’t wash it often.
