Florida Home Design SOS!! Please help!!

last month

I have been driving myself crazy for weeks trying to redecorate. I live right outside of Orlando near natural springs which is tropical but not by the beach. I am a big fan of Oliver James Interiors but, unfortunately, dont think I can afford a design consultant. I have to wait on flooring bc my very old Yorkiepoo has lost bladder control :(.

I work a lot in a high stress job and want something happy and resort like. However, I am on the spectrum and want to make sure I dont do something embarrassing. Ive attached pics of my home as well as AI ideas. any assistance would be so appreciated!

But her house will never have the "ethereal" lighting that AI is showing her in those renderings ...

Good point. Are there any apps that show you why different paint colors would look like realistically? i tried the sw and bm ones and the lighter colors all look the same

If you want to paint your are better off buying some Samplize large paint sample boards and using those in your space. Narrow the colors down with paint chips from the paint store and then order the larger Samplize samples.

    Thank you, will do!

Frankly, the biggest difference between your house and the AI images is the lighting. You can certainly switch out your harsh white light bulbs for something softer/warmer

Given the overhang of your island and your stools, you're unlikely to really notice painting the island, unless you do it screaming neon pink. I certainly wouldn't spend the money to swap out a tan tile floor for a slightly different tan tile floor.

Your house is very neutral. Some people, particularly people who are stressed out or on the spectrum, find that soothing. I, myself, am a big fan of color --- my kitchen is several shades of orange. So, I would recommend adding a few pops of color. You don't need many.

While I like the cool minty colors AI gave you, most of your house has warm browns, so if I were adding color, I'd do it in the red/orange/yellow family. But if you find your neutrals soothing there are plenty of high-end designer rooms that are neutral.

Here, Oliver James has combined soothing neutrals with the warmth of wood, which reads as a pop of orange. Your stools are a very natural material. You just have harsh lighting and didn't have a pro taking your pictures.

So, to sum up, swap out your light bulbs and maybe add a pop or two of some color and don't doubt your taste. Oh, and never use AI, it's just bad.

So Oliver James either does Color Drenching or covers every surface in patterned wallpaper .& every window in fabric drapes or shades. Easy enough to do. $$$$$

CHANGE OUT EVERY BULB IN THE KITCHEN. You'll never get a satisfactory result with all those cool bulbs.

If your recessed cans take a changeable light bulb make sure you use PAR bulbs. They make a huge difference in the quality of the light.

    Awesome! thanks so much!

Agree the bulbs are an issue. A can of paint (the right green) will lift up your whole kitchen area, but keep in mind your floors are leaning beige (the AI floors are leaning white).

Samplize is your friend. Start with the island color then move towards the seating area. Are there funds for a new couch? Something lighter (not white) can change the whole room. You can experiment with blankets and sheets thrown over the couch before you go shopping.

What word prompts did you use with AI? Did you specifically request green on your island? I love the red ginger flowers in this AI image you posted... one of my favorite flowers; I used to buy them for my place all the time.

This floor color shown above is very close to yours. You likely put in the type of floor that you have and the color - and you notice the wall color that AI gave you. It's a warmer color than what you currently have. It looks like you currently have a light grey on your walls or maybe a cool white. Definitely you could use warmer temperature on your light bulbs as well.

You could try samples of BM Vintage Vogue and SW Vogue Green for the island.

You did a great job with your AI inspiration pics!

Check out SW Antique for the walls. It’s a warm ivory. Also SW Creamy. THEN choose an island color.

I love the first one with the light green. It is bright but also calm.

I doubt the decorative pendants and fan bulbs are using 4000K led bulbs. The white balance in your camera is more likely not totally accurate. Check the bulbs, for sure. Take a drawer into SW and get a color determination. Bring white sample cards home and find out the wall color. Let's set the base first.

the lightbulb suggestion is a really good one - i always think decluttering helps a kitchen (and it’s free) -

I would think about your dining chairs, could you find some with more texture/interest like your kitchen?

Painting can be disruptive, if you have a high stress job it could feel like a lot -

it’s a terrific home, just needs some thoughtful details

Do you have a link to the AI you used?

I suggest buying one blue and one green hand towel to try out the colors in your kitchen. Quick and easy to pop over to Target or your favorite store.

With your color of floor tile, I think blue would be a good choice, and with the pool view. I love your blue islands. Much paler blue walls for your space with white sheers.

I created these four similar rooms for you in AI using the same prompt.

@tracedlotd - those rooms are beautiful blues!

I agree with tracefloyd about going with blue. Your floors are warm, but your kitchen counter tops are cool. I think the right blue would marry the two. You have a lot of neutral furniture. I would paint the walls a light blue and the island a little bit darker blue. Then blend the blues with curtain, wall prints, etc. I agree that the light seem harsh.

FABULOUS! You need to add warm neutrals to help make the floor look more cohesive with your white countertops and cabinets… would change your walls to a warm creamy color…green island would be beautiful..change out dining room chairs to white..add warm textured rug..

I think you really need to keep the darker tone floor in mind while picking the wall color. Too fresh and the floors will look dingy.

I might go with a deeper wall color and let the cabinets and outdoor view be the star.

    Something like SW Pewter green

I have also always loved a deep orange red with your floors. Would need to add a few orange red accents in the kitchen - but just a bowl and a tea pot.

True, I did not think about the possiblility of dingey looking floors.
