I Waited Almost 10 Years for This Day

I bought the bald hip rose (R. gymnocarpa) at a native plant sale in October 2015. It disappeared for a couple years, but popped up again a few years ago. Here is its first bloom, from today (also posted to HMF):

Thank you, everyone! I admit I don't know much about abscission layers--here are a few photographic attempts to document it and the size. The lifespan of the blooms is about one day.

Thank you. The foliage is beautiful, I wish that blue green were more common. The not-leaves down below the flower...would you watch and see if the abscission layer is there? And maybe get a photo with a ruler in it so we can tell how big the beautiful blooms are.

What exquisitely pretty anthers are left after the petals drop. They still look fresh! Put this up against the browned out look of multiflora anthers that barely last a day in the sun. I wonder at what point the stigma stops (or starts) accepting pollen that grow pollen tubes.
