If you don't want to change any furniture or textures, I would paint the bumped out area a color that goes well with your rug and pictures. You can also put matching short bookcases on each side of your fireplace under your pictures if you don't mind moving the chair.

You might try a floor lamp and small side table by the chair and then a tall plant on the other side of the fireplace. The image below might help you figure out what items might work on either side of the fireplace.
