Accent wall or no?- I need advice

last month

We are updating our primary bedroom and just repainted it a soft ivory color (the photo of the bedroom is before paint), but we want to add shiplap a greenish paneling to give it color. We initially thought to put it only on the wall between two widows, but now I'm wondering if it would look better on the opposite wall, or even all the way around. Below is the vibe we are going for. Thank you in advance!!

I think it is a random choice to just slap that on any wall in a room for the sense of decor. Your inspiration pic makes it seem purposeful used as a ledge behind the headboard. Does it interest you in doing the same?

I’d leave the wall with the windows alone

Yes, I love the idea of ledge look but don’t know if it would work with the windows. I thought the opposite wall, but we are going to put a mounted tv there.

Tell us what furniture is going on each of the four walls in this room? Also, what size is the room and what does your furniture look like?

I imagine it getting a bit crowded in here with a feature treatment on a wall, but I'm not understanding the size of the room.

If all else fails, what about painting the doors that nice green color?

if you can manage, i'd actually opt for all 4 walls with the ledge (which may force other taller objects like a dresser off the wall.) In which case, omit the ledge or elevate the height of it on one wall and/or add a shaker peg rail in the same on-tone color. check my thoughts from the photo attached. (your room is much bigger, and your green is much milder and this is a rural/historic home i'm referencing, so it's a different vibe, but figured Id toss this in to show you what i'm thinking)

PUlled out of a hat for what reason. Feature walls need to connect ot something in most cases in a bedroom to the bedding . Why the ivory walls what drove that choice . I usually choose wall color after bedding . I think that wall with the ledge cries out fo a bonked head or aat least stuff falling on your head. Stop and think about the bedding the style you want then decide anthing on the walls other than paint , art and drapes

What a lovely sophisticated room! Shiplap, an old-fashioned rustic trend slapped up by you-know-who in every farmhouse she touches, has no place here. This room is pretty far removed from the farmhouse style.

With that aside, I like your idea of adding green. There are lots of ways to add color without lowering the quality of your fine home.

Another fan of green - I’d repaint the grey walls with a soft green and add texture and interest with bed linens, window treatments, art, rug etc- I’d skip the accent wall

So many things I would do before adding random wainscot. Case the windows. Add Roman shades. Drapes. Area rug. Chandelier. The wainscot just chops up the wall and makes furniture selection tricky. (Should the bureau be taller than the wainscot? Shorter?)

IMO it's easier if you begin a bedroom by selecting your linens first. That sets the color scheme for the room. Next the rug and LAST THE PAINT.

Even your inspiration photo noted that the wainscoting extending the full wall.

I would forget about the green shiplap. If you want green accents, choose it for bedding and window treatments, etc.

Have you considered skipping the paneling and just doing the one wall the green color (or using a wallpaper) instead? The half wood paneled wall might make things really hard to change up in the future. You can do some moulding if you want, however it is much easier to just change wall color/wallpaper instead of removing a half-wall if you ever want to change things. Below is a bedroom design with some moulding by the chairs.
