COLORIST Urgent question re: Sherwin Williams paint selections

last month

Almost entire interior will be repainted this week. We had ordered Samplize samples and chosen PANDA WHITE because it neutralized the strong green color of lawn and trees.coming in through north windows. Have learned Samplizes aren't created at the SW factory and and excellent SW branch hasn't been able to nail the correct shade even up to this morning.

I urgently need to find color by Tuesday and can trial samples tomorrow.. No graytones. Everything about this home interior and exterior leans warm rather than cool. Austin stone on exterior and fireplace,, crema marfil floors in bathrooms, the warmer version Taj Mahal kitchen counters, Pavilion Beige cabinets, currently SW Patience in lvg room, hallways, ,entry that is too dark and overly warm. Greek Villa, Alabaster, Westhighland White too vivdly light. Hoping to find something in upper 70's or lowest 80's LRV using matte finish, not satin.

We did hire professional help but the sweet woman passed away suddenly and her daughter couldn't find our info in the mother's files.

Please help us.

I am far from a color expert, but I have SW Moderate White in my kitchen. It looks much whiter but still warm.

I googled panda white vs moderate white and got this. Maybe worth looking at?

Sorry neither of those would be my choice both seem to have yellow undertones which IMO always drive everythin else . Why not jut do a real white if going this light anyway . I never think about LVR or any of that confusing stuff and I never choose wall color with sampe from anyone. Go find a color you like get a huge poster board and paint it with 2 coats then move that all around th spaces you are painting with lights on . You will know right away if it is right .Why SW at all IMO a poor quality paint .

Ask SW to make a sample of BM French Macaroon and see if you like it.

Are you asking them to color match your samplize sheet or are they making batches of their panda white that are not turning out like you want? Have you tested on your walls what they have come up with using primer and two coats and holding it up next to samplize?

SW Shoji White is always a winner.

If you have exterior trees or double pane glass windows with modern glass, you will get some green influences. To counter that you can try a color more in the yellow/red segment. I am a Certified Color Specialist. I will check a few for you shortly. Bbl

Of course the Samplize samples are not created at a Sherwin Williams factory, it is a separate company that filled a needed niche ... but that doesn't mean it isn't SW paint.

I have an embarrassingly large collection of Samplize paint samples, both BM and SW, and 99.5% of them are accurate in their color representation. The only difference is that Samplize uses an eggshell finish for the samples and I always paint with matte, so I know it will look slightly different.

Have you tried SW Aesthetic White? In your lighting conditions it might be good for you to get a sample and do 2 coats on a foam board.

I've had good success with painting two boards and putting them in a corner/two adjacent walls, so the color bounces off as it will once the room is painted.

I have a lot of dark wood trim in my house and medium dark floors. I asked a designer to come and pick my whole house white. We settled on SW Antique. I love it. It’s definitely not “too white”and not “too yellow”.

You may have to get a little bit of “real paint” to put directly in the walls before you make your decision if you don’t feel Samplize will be accurate enough.

Here is the technical DNA Chart for SW Aesthetic Whute. It is a “near neutral”. You can see the LRV is 72-73. So it will be neutral but not bright white. The segment of the color wheel puts it in the warm yellow hue but closer to the Yellow/red which is why I selected it given your input about “greens” streaming in from windows and outside greenery. Most any accent color or accessories will look good with this color. HOWEVER, samples put in your house in YOUR light is key. I would like more info if you can. What is main color of your largest furniture that will be in these spaces?

We chose Shoji white for most of our walls, and I love it. I hate the crappy job the painters did, but I love the color!

We did High Reflective White in the kitchen and it's nice and clean and crisp and bright, which is what we wanted. Shoji is a gentler, zen white.

I own around 300 Samplize samples and have not had this issue, so I am curious what they are unable to nail down.

Samplize uses SW paint to create their SW samples.

Matte is going to look slightly darker than eggshell. (Samplize samples are eggshell finish).

If that is the issue have the store use the same formula but reduce the colored colorants by 25% (Do not let them reduce the white colorant - just the colors). If that is too light do the same thing except reduce the colorant by 10% or 15% till you get it just the right shade.

I have seen more issues with the small sample jars of paint being off than Samplize samples being off when compared to a gallon.

If the Samplize sample is vastly different than the store color have them scan the samplize sample and create the color based on the reading.

If both the sample of Panda and the sample made from the scan are off it could be that one of their colorant calibrations is off. It that is the case go to a different SW store.
